Serius radio replacement - specific question
I tried searching, but didn't find my specific question - sorry if I missed it.
Suddenly, on start-up, got 'SOS malfunction' message. Blue tooth and all sound from radio and navigation was gone, can't pair a phone, but nav graphics / radio display works. Dealer said the satellite radio unit went - an internal short (no water was found in trunk though). $1400 quote - parts, install & coding Question - can i simply replace my Satellite DLP Module and get back base functionality without re-coding? I do want my blue tooth, analog radio & nav sound (I have not been subscribing to Serius and really don't need it). also your 2c on if the dealer sounds right is appreciated - |

Anything the goes bad in the most ring
Anything the goes bad in the Most Bus ring will break the loop and cause
everything else to look bad because it won't be able to communicate. I would think you might just be able to bypass the module to get things working . http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...41524429,d.cGE You need a Most Bus jumper but where to get one I don't know. You may or may not need programming to remove the sat radio form the VO list. http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1260829447 Or you might not even need a jumper if you can reroute the In and Out signals to bypass the satellite module it looks like its adjacent to the phone module TCU in and older car. You might be able to get away with just moving the In on the satellite module to the In on the TCU. Last edited by ctuna; 01-26-2013 at 09:30 PM. |

Technic couldn't you just bypass it at the junction
Technic couldn't you just bypass it at the junction?
As in the reverse of the cdc install http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...&highlight=cdc Although its more straight forward to do it at the Sat module for with a jumper. Also is it necessary to uninstall it in the software ? As in remove it from the VO or as and option in the Radio file. Also I would at least disconnect power from the module if not remove it. |

ctuna and technic, thanks for the ideas. The dealer said that a jumper / bypass would cause my nav to 'not work' . not sure if that makes sense tho -
i'll check out the jumper thanx |

Update -
I found an exact replacement satellite radio module on ebay. Exact same part number, same software and hardware rev. Manufacture date 3mos after the one that came in my car. I swapped it out for the old one, instantly saw a red light go on on the inside of the box (through the vent holes in the case). It works 100%. No coding required - blue tooth, radio, navigation sound all works, SOS malfunction message disappeared. No need to even reset thru the HU !!! Dealer solution: $1400. ebay, patience & a little luck: $206. |
