Hey everyone, I brought my car in for service to the dealer and got the "courtesy" wash. Needless to say, my car looks like it got washed with a brillo pad along with some nice long scratches. This was actually my first time stepping into the dealership so I was not aware they did this bad of a job, lesson learned, never again. Anyway, they offered to buff out the car for me, and I was wondering if the dealership does a good job doing this. Has anyone had any experience?

Eff the dealership, everytime I go there they try and wash my car even when it's clean, it's like really? It's clean already. I personally would just wash my car my self and detail it my self. When you have a bunch of teenagers washing cars of course your going to find scratches.

I guess it depends which dealer you go to. I don't have a garage and I DD my car every day, so I always stop by the dealer every week or so for free washes. It's a bit better quality than taking it to an automatic car wash, though of course not perfect.

It does depend on the dealership and I'm sure some are better than others, but honestly I would not let the dealership touch the paint on my car. I always request No Wash, but have had them run the car through their Scratchfest5000 brillo machine a couple of times, ruining my detail. Having them then go over it with a buffer would just add insult to injury. They are not professional detailers and as such they don't belong behind a buffer IMHO.

Personally, I don't like letting the dealer wash my car.

However, they've done it without telling me a few times in the past while it was in for service and they do a decent job. My only complaint is that they always miss 2-3 large spots and do a crappy job on the wheels.

I would still rather not let them wash it. I have since asked them to just do the interior vacuum and forgo the wash.

Thanks for the input. So nobody has ever had the dealer buff their car? I was planning on buffing everything out this spring, but they offered to repair the damage.

I don’t let anyone wash my car, let alone detail it. I’ve even gone as far as leaving a post-it on the steering wheel with “NO WASH” written on it when dropping it at the dealer. That was a last resort effort, as requesting no wash with the SA resulted in a swirl/wash the 3 times prior.

First person to answer your question... It'd probably be the same people buffing your car that washed it. Pass on that offer. I'd ask the dealer to pay for a detail at a 3rd party...someone that actually knows what their doing with a paint/clear correction.

They can't even wash my damn car right without swirling it up and leaving smear marks all over it. I can't imagine a detailing job.

never take it to the dealership for any type of DETAIL. i dont even let them wash my car....

My mother had her BSM X5 detailed at the dealership was on special for like 159 it came out awesome.

I agree watch some videos and get your own stuff. Even if you are in a city and don't own a garage, chances are someone you know does. After 2-3 times you will have recouped your cash, just don't get roped into doing all your buddies cars

I had my dealer detail the entire car. I won a freebie at our local club tech session at our dealer. I watched them do a demo polishing on a black hooded customer car, was very impressed by the job. My dealer's detailer used a Maguire's two step chemical buffing process - it turned out wonderful on my CR paint. The interior cleaning and revitalizing is what really impressed me - I had zero complaints on everything they did. Every nook inside the car was cleaned and polished. Amazing job.

Heard the dealer around here uses a soft cloth automatic wash.
Gave them once chance. Car looked like it was sprayed wet and then dried.

Now I just let them do the vacuum only. They are good at not doing the wash

all dealers and different, and most the time its highschool kids washing the cars

the last dealership i worked at, the detailing manager refused to use anything but a wool pad for detailing (should have seen black cars in the sunlight!!)

I would NEVER let the dealer wash my car. In fact, I tell them repeatedly since day 1 every time I go in for service to let everyone know " NO WASH". However, the last time I was at a dealer they totally forgot and someone washed it. And guess what, I got some nice new scratches. Dude looked like he dried wiped the hell of my car with dirt on it just moving it all around my paint smh....

When I go for service I make them put up a "no courtesy wash" on my mirror. Will not let them touch the car.

I am laminating a sign that says please do not wash. Thank you!!!!

I can't tell you how many times I have had dealers that have screwed this up or last second I asked them why is my car taking so long and they go it is going through the wash.

A sign is the only thing to stop them.
