Hi All,

The rear dot matrix and subsequent crappy looking tint on the rear window is starting to get to me!

Anyone have a recommendation in Sydney for a tinter who can work around this? Don't care if you need to sand it, fill it or Fugde it...

Just want it gone!!

Easiest way seems to be vinyl on the exterior of the glass to hide this - However I have a thought or idea:

What if:

- We cut and remove the tint in the dot matrix area
- Find some exterior tint (key word: durable) and tint that strip from the exterior
- the exterior tint will be as dark as possible ~5%

This will eliminate the dot matrix issue and give the rear glass a windscreen strip.

What are your thoughts on this and any recommendations on the exterior tints?

In theory it sounds like a good idea, but having a strip on the rear glass kinda sounds ghetto to me... Having said that it may still look ok in person, the best bet may be to talk to a few tint shops?

i think bmr should offer a free rear strip as advertising. problem solved

You could easily vinyl wrap on the outside, which would mask this issue (I used masking tap and then checked inside the cabin to see if it masked the issue from inside and it was effective looking in the rear view mirror)

I think the only real solution is to retint and not tint over the dot matrix area with the new tint.

The exterior vinyl strip is an interesting suggestion...
Hwever, even if you get high grade, durable, uv protcted vinyl, it will lose its gloss and slightly fade due to washing and exposure to elements - i had vinyl on my front windscreen on my previous car.
But i would still consider this option too

Any others have solutions for this?

Yup thats pretty much what i had thought also, but even if you paid $40 for roll you could do it every 12 months to kep it looking fresh...

But its probably only $150 to retint, considering the cash i throw at my car for the sake of $100 i might at well just retint!

Would retinting solve the problem tho?
I havent seen or heard of any tinting jobs that have overcome the annoying dot matrix

Word of advice, window tinters hate removing rear tint as they dont/cant guarantee the rear demisters will stay intact. But if you get an absolute expert tinter, that might be different

Either way, id be interested to see any results from whateveer you decide to do
