The Los Angeles syndrome. Yeah some of the kids I know got new Range Rovers, brand new Jags, fully loaded Ford F150 FX4's. When I got my license at age 16, my first car was a 1990 toyota corolla, 5 speed with 244,xxx miles. I drove it to high school and then continued onto college for most of the years. Most of my friends had benz, g35, 350z, and TL's while in high school and college. Yes, I got jelly. While selling drugs for multiple years, I managed to save enough to get a CPO'd e93 335i at age 21. My corolla was soon my daily beater to school and work while my e93 was a weekend car. The corolla finally died on me at 307,xxx miles and I donated it to charity. Now I'm pimping on bitches and shittin' on my friends at age 22!!!

That is how it is here, some of the people have new Range Rovers, Trucks, and one or two people have new Porsches. I don't act like I'm better then everyone else because I own a BMW.

Though, everyone that owns a nice car is super cocky. I make sure I don't act stuck up.

Or teaches your kids that every generation has to start at the bottom of the totem pole because of pride instead of forward progress with every generation.

Not in an offensive way (to your child raising, just a general opinion about mine), but I'd rather see my kids reach farther than me in life. Not start where I started and work to the same position.

That's all well and good, but I took the chance and put them all on my insurance that I have had for almost 30 yrs with never an accident, & paid for their insurance.

And paid for their college educations

Not about to buy them the car too - I see others kids that get everything without ever having to lift a finger - most of them are messed up. Once they finally DO leave their parents house - they're back soon after looking for free lodging as they find they can't make it in the real world.

My wife & I are NOT gonna be parents that have 20 something or 30 something kids still living with them. We spent our earlier years raising them - now it's OUR time.

When I grew up I had work starting @ 14 - specifically motivated to save for my 1st car. My parents did not buy me a car, did not pay for my insurance, & did not pay for my college, and my parents have $$ (I also had 3.8 GPA and was High Honor Student - but I wasn't rewarded for that - it was expected)

So I have already done more for my kids than my parents did for me with regard to free stuff.

I actually do look upon what they did as a learning experience and that it better prepared me for my future.

And yes, they do need to start @ bottom of pole - too many kids come out of school thinking they are gonna immediately have (or entitled too) all the great stuff their parents took years to accumulate. This is when they start using all charge cards they can get their hands on and run themselves so deep in debt they can't get out.


And oh, did I mention that when I was young:

I also had to walk to school thru deep snow in my bare feet, up hill both ways

Had PB&J sandwiches for lunch every day - and felt damn lucky to have it
