Might be an idea to post the reg number somewhere on here,to give forum members the heads up should anyone decide to look at it!!!
You are probably right getting shot of it to a dealer a private buyer could just cause you even more stress!.Good luck with whatever you choose.

I think the 325d is a detuned 330d so guessing it would be as reliable as the 330d. Dont know about the 320d.

Go for the 325d. I wouldn't entertain a 320d what with the turbo unreliabilities.
You've been bitten once with a 4-pot, not again. Last edited by Dr Dave; 12-31-2012 at 02:57 AM. |

Doesn't seem like too bad of a loss considering the amount of $ you'll need to put into repairs in the future..looks like you got a lemon though. Good luck with your next car

Real shame you've had such bad problems, though I've a mate who's had pretty much the same problems with his petrol 118i.
Diesels seem that bit more reliable but there's also the dependency of whether you do a lot of short distance trips over buying another petrol car of course. Some 320d's have experienced turbo issues, but buy the right one and I dont think you;d have to worry - I've heard reports of 150k plus on the same turbo, its the chance you take with all turbo cars imo.

Only the newer (post lci I think) ones. The older ones are different. The good thing about the newer ones is that a remap can take you to mapped 330d power (circa 290-300).

As a note, its not all plain sailing with the newer N57 engine. My early LCi 330d has suffered timing chain rattle, which resulted in an engine and gearbox out of vehicle repair!

Which engine is it that suffers with the timing chain snapping causing destruction of the entire engine?
Will a circa 2008 pre lci 320d suffer with injectors or anything like that? or is just a case of the usual turbo going. Are these engine good for 150k if fully maintained? Just wondering as there seems plenty for sale with 50-60k on the clock but anything with 30k or less is at a very high premium.

I'm sure you will find a nice 330d that suits you shortly
If not you could always look at a C-Class or A4/A6 - couple of options there but 330d will always give you a more enjoyable and rounded ownership experience at that price point. |

or go for something totally different, Focus RS or tuned ST
My ST made 320bhp and never failed me once. I drove that thing hard as well.

A ford or peugeot or vauxhall just feels like a backwards step after owning a BMW, even if it wasn't reliable lol
