Question Washer jets not working after recent cold weather....

Hi all,

Washer jets were working fine before the recent cold snap we had and now they're not working at all.

I'm 99% sure it's got something to do with washer fluid in the pipes freezing and therefore expanding, forcing something apart so it no longer supplies fluid to the jets.

Just wondering before I start taking things apart tomorrow, if there are any particularly common places in the system that this happens that I could check first to save time???

Or alternatively, any tests that I could run to establish the whereabouts of the problem?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Cheers,
JB.

I just did mine, the pipe had come off the drivers side jet. Just un-bolt the filter panel 6x 8mm bolts pull the panel off and you'll see the pipes, unless you cant hear the pump then it will be electrical

Does the pump work?
Do your headlight washers work but not the windscreen. These are on a separate pump but use the same water bottle.
Narrowing these down will help trace the issue.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The windscreen washers work fine. However there is absolutely no sign of life from the headlight washer jets. I can't hear a pump working either.

Looking like an electrical issue I'm guessing.

This happened to mine (in the previous owners hands) - was the fuse in the glovebox.

Then I had the fun and games of having to replace both jets ad they leaked at around 60 each!

All fine now, though..

Thanks for that Phil, I'll try the fuse.

Yeah I've heard, read and experienced that they're not designed brilliantly. I had the entire drivers side one replaced a few months back as it didn't retract properly. Thankfully I got it done under warranty from the garage I bought it from so didn't cost me anything.

Ok so this is strange. On Phil's advice I went to check the fuse the other day. I couldn't get it out so thought I'd wait until I had some needle nose pliers but I had pushed and prodded it a bit.

I then get in the car the next day, go to use the wipers and the washer jets work again!!??!! And have continued to do so all week! What's that all about?!?

Genie has granted you a wish!!

Probably a loose connection with the fuse.

It seems so! Let's hope that's the end of it.
