Tire size advice please! - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Alright, so here's my scenario.

I picked up a set of OEM 225's for my '11 E91 X-drive that I need to throw some tires on. Wheels are 19x8 front (ET 37), and 19x9 rear (ET 39).

I KNOW the standard tire size(s) for these wheels would either be 225/35 fronts and 255/30 rears, or 235/35 fronts and 265/30 rears.

BUT, I am not planning on lowering my wagon, and would like to fill the fenders a little more, so I'm wondering if I can pull off a 225/40 front and 255/35 rear.

Thoughts?

Looks like overall diameter is just 1" larger than the stock 225/45/17's, so I'm thinking they might work. Especially since I've got close to 3" of wheel well gap up front and 2" of gap out back.

I would run 235/35/19 up front and 265/30/19 out back as those are real close to stock diameter. I see that you want to close the wheel gap and are choosing to run a higher sidewall on the tires, I guess it would work as the front and rears would still be about the same diameter. I would just get some performance springs and run the recomended tire sizes. Also you may want to run a 15-20 mm spacer on the back wheels.

Well, technically the recommended sizes are 225/35 and 255/30, and as I mentioned, I'm NOT dropping the wagon. It's used as an AWD vehicle for ski trips and such, and therefore it will not be lowered.

If it wasn't an X-drive, I'd lower it in a heartbeat, but this car was bought to be used as an AWD vehicle. Just want it to look nice and lose a bit of the giant gap without dropping it.

If you do 225/40/19 and 255/35/19, you're gonna have a bad time.

shouldnt be too bad. just dont go too wide upfront else there might be some rubbing issues. I highly recommend the michelin pilot super sports. excelent dry/wet sumemr traction.

I know that the 225/35/19 and 255/30/19 are the recommmended sizes to stay at about 25 inch like a stock 225/45/17, but you were talking about running 225/40/19 and 255/35/19 and that would bring tire dia. up to 26 inches which are to tall. I know bmw speedometers aren't very accurate but this would throw it off even further. I see you use it for winter use get some coilovers, best of both worlds low for nice weather and raise it for winter. I know the wheel gaps are hideous on the awd bmw's, so just go with a sport drop less than 1" all around.
