Yes it is beyond them. Multi meter use on a bmw charging system is a crapshoot since The IBS sensor tells the ECU how much to charge the battery, so you can have a lower charging state and a high charging rate that are both normal depending on battery condition. Also, some times the alternator is not even charging to save fuel since it charges when needed. If your low charging light is not on, different than the low batter warning, the alternator is fine.
