I'm getting the seatbelt / airbag light coming on intermittently from the passenger seat sensor failure that should be covered under the recall / extended warranty for my 06 325XIT.

The stealer said that my vin is not covered so I called BMW head office customer service and she was sympathetic but also refused to help.

Seems pretty arbitrary how they decide who gets covered and who does not. Who can I make a formal complaint to?

F the govt, I was asking who at BMW Canada I could speak or write to address this issue.

thing is, its an 06, i dont know of any warranty (maybe aftermarket) that covers the car.if you had extended, they only extend it an extra two years (meaning it would have expired in 2012)

all covered and non covered items are on bmw website im pretty sure.

You could escalate the issue with BMW, but if your VIN is not covered by the recall, it's not covered by the recall.

The seat mat sensor recall that the OP is referring to was probably issued by the NHSTA in the US. It does appear that many other '06 models have this problem and were not included in the recall based on VIN. Recalls never expire, thus the age of the vehicles and it's mileage does not matter. The OP needs to gather other '06 owners info and formally request the NHSTA to expand the VIN range of the recall. Not much else is going to change anything. Perhaps if you bug BMWNA enough, you will "miraculously" find your VIN in the included range.

OP is from canada, NHSTA and BMWNA won't listen to him. He needs to speak to BMW Canada or the NHSTA equivalent in Canada... but he already said he doesnt want to speak to the govt.

The local news loves this kind of stuff, and they have all day to dream up how they're going to stick their cameras in the dealership's faces.... BMW is useless, they left me a voicemail once and then when I called back the girl says we're just interns, we're not trained on technical issues, you have to talk to your dealership about it. STUPID.

I could be wrong but I believe I remember hearing that in the US seatbelt and airbag malfunctions are legally required to be covered for the life of the vehicle. Like I said could be wrong.

Why would the local news care about this? Maybe I'm missing something but BMW doesn't cover safety items forever. Are you expecting them to cover your brakes since that's a safety feat?

No government agency in Canada is going to listen to you unless you have other details like bumper to bumper warranty for 10 years with BMW.

Either pay to fix it or sell the car

Canada is in North America so I thought perhaps they have some influence north of the border. Also, the Canadian equivalent to NHTSA (Transport Canada?) might be well aware of the US recalls issued by BMW.

Also, FWIW, I went through this years ago after buying my 330i from a used car dealer with 107K miles on it. Safety recalls by the NHTSA usually don't have time/mileage limits. After my local dealer telling me my car was not part of the affected VIN range, I called BMWNA and explained that I thought it seemed very likely that my car should be included. After speaking to a few different people, they agreed and authorized the replacement at no cost to me.

I kept it civil at all times and they responded with decency.

good thing peeps didn't listen to your positive advice with the lpfs/hpfp issues. Where the f is this "sell the car" advice coming from? Brakes? Who says that is covered for life?

I didnt know LPFS/HPFP were safety concerns. From what im getting, the OP is stating that he would like BMW to repair his vehicle under a recall that is on other years/models of vehicles because its a safety concern, and your agreeing with this? In that case I want BMW to replace my HPFP on my 330! ohh wait I dont have one? I want it replaced anyway! I cant tell you how long I drove my 1995 Lumina with the airbag light on and there was a recall for a module on later years for something similar.

I shouldn't of been a dick and said sell the vehicle, I think I have been on these forums a bit too long (see below).

These cars are very expensive to fix and maintain, I came from other car forums including Corvette forum, Fiero forum (I have a 355 Spyder kitcar), and the DSM forum (I had a high 10's Talon TSI) and am respected for my information on those forums, but I still cant get my head around some of the negative posts on this forum.

I would have never chirp people for asking a silly questions, asking a question that has been answered a million times, or spelling errors, but for some reason behind a screen gives people permission to be real dicks and I guess I have taken some of this negativity in. People that know me, know I would give the shirt off my back for others.


To the OP, you need to give us more info or your request is very silly. Just because the 2007's were recalled with a similar problem, does not mean this entitles you to the same recall even if its a safety issue.
