The instructions for the Metra harness said to connect that to the the ACC fuse but I am not sure where that is. Also, I read on the forums that all the fuses time out when the car goes into sleep mode. Is there any truth to that? If so, would the slot where the caraudiocraze DIY says to plug in the constant work since all of them will time out eventually?

I would assume it should be the same for any HU

That why I put that DIY up . I know the +12 for the obd connector is un switched and is a direct connection to the battery. You could use that.

I'm assuming you're referring to the constant power needed for the HU. I plan on trying to tap into the fuse that's listed on the DIY you put up. I still need the accessory power source that will turn on the HU when I put the key in and pop the key out. Am I correct in thinking that unswitched means constant?

Yep unswitched = not turned off= constant

Since this other head unit uses the circuit board for fuses there must
be something somewhere there that is on all the time.
I'm not sure why your harness doesn't just hook up to the same power sources as the old radio.

I thought I had it hooked up to the constant power wire but I guess I was wrong so I decided to tap into the fuse box.

I originally had the constant power running to that larger gauge Red/green stripe wire but it didn't keep a constant power source. Is the constant power the grey/red stripe wire?

I'm not sure if it depends on the year or make of the car, but I connected the constant right through the harness. Pin 15 I think it was off the top of my head.

Acc i tapped into the lighter fuse at the fuse box. I don't have to start the car to get the HU to turn on, but I do have to press the start button once to go into acc mode.

Thanks Dannyboy. I connected the yellow constant wire from the harness to the yellow wire on the HU and then matched it to the corresponding Pin 15 on the OEM harness and the memory still does not work. I currently have the ACC tapped to the lighter fuse in the fuse box.

The ligthers turn off when the car does.

If you have your phone charger plugged in you will notice this.
Well mine has and led light on it that shows its off when the car is.

I couldn't get the female connector ends so i got the connector box,i can see the light from the MOST cables in the dash, but i didnt think that were for sound.

Did you put a fiber optic extension cable in .

Did you put a fiber optic extension cable in .
The Sos system is on the most bus . I believe people mentioned
that they needed a fiber optic extension in the head relocation thread
to get the SOS error to go away.

The SOS and bluetooth modules are on the Most Bus ring along
with the L7 amp if you started with and L7 system.

If you started out with an L7 system there is no wiring to the speakers from the Head Unit only a fiber optic cable.

So the fiber optic cable carries the sound signal? I did do the extension. I have the L7 amp did the extension but it seams the female connector ends are discontinued #3 in the diagram part #61136901846 so i used 2 connector housings #4 in diagram.

I followed that thread to the T double checked everything. If the optic cable carries the sound signal than maybe the connector housings i used is not gonna work, light is traveling thru the system. How can i get the discontinued female connectors?

It can't work your new head unit has no optical out

It can't work your new head unit has no optical out.
The head relocation is only to stop errors and allow BMW to be able to work on it . The L7 amp will only accept optical signals in BMW format.

You have to loose the L7 amp.

There are no low level analog lines to the L7 only an optical line . L7 amp only accepts optical signals.

These are different problems

1) You want to get rid of the errors . So the descriptions of the way to set
up your OEM head unit that are in the relocate the head unit thread. There is something you need to understand about the MOST BUS ring technicaly that picture of the fiber optic link between the amp and head unit in the L7 diagram is not correct. The Most bus is actually a ring bus with and in and out line at each module(fiberoptic in out). So it will go from the head unit to the amp to the Bluetooth to the SOS and come back to the Head unit. In order for it to work there can be no break in the loop. If there is everything that is on that loop will not function and or produce errors. Now I think people by pass and remove the L7 amp as part of the procedure in the relocation procedure.
There is a second way to get rid of some the errors by programming the modules you don't want out of the cars list of options, but I don't see people use that
a lot on this board.

2) Getting sound to your speakers.
So now you need to get a harness that will route the pre amp signals to the Trunk area in a analog format for and amp or processor. (As I have been told
that cars with the optical connection do not have wires for this) Then you can feed the outputs of your amp/processor through the factory harness for the speakers at the L7 amp location. You should get in touch with Technic for such a harness and the specific information you need .

The kind of systems most build for a L7 system because of the 9 channels it has usually start with and ms-8.

How exactly does the MS-8 Power all 11 speakers?
Its technically an 8 channel amp correct?
Also what is recomended to use for input from the Aftermarket Radio to the MS-8?
High Level Speaker Input or Low Level RCAs?

Thanks

Read some of the ms-8 system threads

Read some of the ms-8 system threads
I think the most common thing is one channel is assigned
to a tweeter mid driver pair.

Do a search for ms-8 and people will generally list there channel assignments.
If you download the ms-8 manual they have a bunch of suggestions also.
