Advice on 330d

Ive seen a 330d e92 msport with 150,000 miles at a BMW dealership, full service history with same dealer, contemplating trading in, what should I be looking out for? Cheers!

The DPF might well be near the end of its life at that sort of mileage, has it got idrive? where it'll tell you current life expectancy. Ask them to print off the service history so you can see what it's had done to it, suspension and things like that will need a good check over if not been replaced I'd say

How do you check the life of your DPF with the I drive?

I'm unsure of the top of my head, but I'm sure it's in the "service" section, scroll down past pads, oil and I'm sure it's the last option, will double check tomorrow

I personally wouldnt buy one with that sort of miles on it unless your going to do very very little miles. A 180k car in 3 years isnt going to be worth much. Having said that if its a bmw dealer then it should be fine. DPF is going to be a problem, personally i would just have it taken out and the car mapped.
As above said, see whats been done, suspension etc. Then check in the computer when the pads etc are due changed.

DPF won't be the last item on the i-drive if it's the next item on the service list.

DPF is known as "Particle Filter" on I-Drive and will last around 150k miles on cars (like mine) that travel mainly on motorways.

Look for single owner obviously well maintained cars. The service items which normally require least attention are the Particle Filter (default replacement mileage approx 150k) and the brake pads (90k miles) on cars which inhabit motorways. Also check other service items/receipts not registered on I-drive

DPF ( Diesel Particulate Filter ) isnt a problem however you drive or however many miles you do if you're prepared to spend approx 400 quid and get it removed and get the car remapped ! Ive had it done on my 330D M Sport and its up near 300BHP and unbelievably quick
I'd have to agree with a previous reply and say that personaly I wouldnt touch one that had done that many miles because you dont know how its been treated.
Either get an older car or get some more cash from somewhere !

I personally wouldn't worry about mileage as long as it has been properly serviced and not an automatic.

Modern cars if looked after can go above 250k. Most people chase low mileage cars but there is school of thought that low mileage cars put more stress on the engine. Short journeys that seldom allow the engine go to temperature can cause more engine wear, and DPF issues. The constant stop starting of inner city driving, speed humps will again put more wear on the suspension and clutch.

I could imagine the car you are looking at would have 90 percent of its life spent on the motorway (presuming it is less than 3-4 years old). So majority of the time driven at a steady speed and in 5/6 gear.

I've had many high mileage cars. I carefully choose them and never had issues past 200k

The only issue will be about it being more difficult to resell, so will take a lot longer to sell than low mileage cars.

Good luck with the purchase

More or less agree with sword and its resale thats difficult. The particle filter can be reset as can everything else.

I'm very surprised a BMW dealer is retailing a car with such a high mileage!

Have had my 330d M-Sport for a few years now.

It was on 112k when I bought it, and was an Ex Business Car, so had pretty much been sat on Motorway in 6th gear clocking up the miles.

I had a DPF Delete done well over a year ago, as I was getting errors, and since then have had no issues at all. BHP is up - MPG is up too.

Its now on 152k, and runs perfectly well with no issues.

It has sailed through the last 2 MOT's with no observations.
