Good thing is it goes away after the ding.My dad's Ford, it stays on and if it's cold enough it will change to red snowflake.

Exactly. My car doesn't know what the road conditions are like, so why pretend like you do? 96.83% of the time when this goes off because of it being around 3C out, the roads are fine. And if they aren't fine, 97.15% of the time it is obvious to anyone with 2 eyes that conditions are slippery.

Even if there is snow on the road (or if someone wet the road and it froze???), at 3C it is melting (granted, not all that quickly), not freezing.

If my car is going to let me know that it is cold out and things might be frozen, at least pick a temperature that makes sense. How about 0C where water actually will freeze and/or snow will, in theory, not melt when it hits the ground.

I dunno, I can't believe anyone actually finds this feature more useful than annoying. Each to their own.

clowns!

In VT (Vermont) you'll frequently see "Bridge Freezes Before Road" signs.

At 37F, the road surface of a bridge *can* be frozen - especially if there is a
breeze blowing (under the bridge - lowering the temperature of the road surface
to freezing - or lower).

VT put those signs up to warn motorists the road may be wet, and that bridge
up ahead may look wet, although it may be 'black ice'.

I drove over some 'black ice' this morning on an exit ramp. How do I know?
Because while rounding the ramp, my car side slipped a bit - no biggie as I
was only going 40 or so...

<Sigh> 3 degrees C isn't even that cold.

I could have read this entire thread without any sidebar references and still guessed your location in less than 2 tries. Ha. Spoken like a true Canuck! 3 degrees - sh'i mein, we're still wearing T-shirts up here at 3 degrees. Ha.

+1

I freak out every time I hear it because I am still scarred by when I got the temp warning indicators when my water pump failed.
