Should have brought it to dealers attention first.

not being under warranty has its upsides. it's a liberating feeling knowing i won't have to disconnect my entire meth kit in the trunk.

Guessing I'm ok since mine were manufactured in the first half of 2006

Thats why with that type of attitude you will get nothing. If they had seen it you would of had some kind of record.

Thanks for posting this! This is the first recall that I'm affected by, although I haven't experienced the problem.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know what the preferred place would be to tap in near the battery for a charger? I charge my battery regularly, even though I drive my car at least 5 days a week. Charging the battery solved an electrical problem on my E39 (DSC would not work even though all sensors were working).

Right now I lift up the cover on the (+) terminal to connect, and connect the other lead to the (-) battery terminal. What I'd like to do is install a cable with a quick-release high current DC connector so I can just plug the charger in.

You wouldn't be related to Nigel Shiftright would you? If so, the Prince of Darkness (Mr. Lucas), could be your poltergeist. Or perhaps his German cousin Herr Bosch...

i've already contacted the dealership to book a preemptive appointment before hordes of people rush in and it's a 3 week turn around time like the hpfp/injector recall

So you're saying you knew that the Positive connector could fail over time so you went to an Indy and had them replace the positive terminal and they charged you $1000?

Really no reason to have the dealer ever do anything... They cost twice as much.

..they do rape... but if you go for an oil change and ask to check for recalls / SIB's you can get things covered

Then I guess you would buy a new car and have the INDY SHOP do your repairs and you would pay them while your car is under warranty.

Im saying that it DID FAIL and i had to buy a new fuse box, battery cable plus pay for install... If they refuse to reinburse me we will definately have to go to court... Car shorted on me on the highway twice but came right back on... Then finally there was no power to the vehicle what so ever and i had to get it towed out my driveway

...you don't take it to the dealer to save money but you'll hire a lawyer to sue them for not covering something you did at an independent shop ?

Just this morning had both airbag warnings come on, one after the other, in successive starts. After sitting for a couple hours, they are both gone.

Maybe related?

have you seen the 2007+'s?

they're missing little things like the trunk tools, or the flashlight in the glovebox.

Why is everyone getting all worked up? Dude had something fail, was out of warranty, had it fixed. Now BMW is acknowledging it as an issue and recalling cars. So dude should be reimbursed, at least for the parts that would be replaced under the recall, assuming he kept his documentation. In a reasonable world it might require a couple phone calls and maybe a fax or two, no need for lawyers at all. Had he not had his car fixed BMW would be on the hook to reimburse his local dealer to replace those parts so it's not like he's shafting them.
