i am new here and so far i have enjoyed reading and learning from all the info on this forum...

i do have a question, my 07 335i is making a hammering sound when it is sitting idle. it goes away when i let go of the brake pedal. is that something i should worry about?

?

could you be more specific...is it running rough at idle?...does the whole car shake?

Is it a hollow sound or a solid sound?

I had a hammering sound in my old 330i that seemed to be coming from someplace behind the dashboard, and only at idle. Checked all the heat shields, they were secure. Dealership had no idea, a local indy thought something might be caught in the header or cat. It went on for about a year, but then last spring I was doing a fluid and filter change and found a loose washer bouncing around in the engine air filter housing. Once that was gone, so was the noise.

when idling it just makes a hammering sound. it does not shake or anything. simply a sounds that goes away as soon as i put it on gear.

Do you have an Auto or Manual? My guess is it's your clutch making the sound, mine makes the sound until I push the clutch pedal down.

I have the same thing, cold start brake pedal still pushed down I hear the "thumping" sometimes it seems like I can even feel it through the brake pedal. but as soon as I release its gone. Havent had any issues with it and haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. Although annoying it does not worry me enough to do something about it.

tl;dr: I have the same thing, I dont know what causes it, doesnt seem to cause any problems.
