Best VFM mod you can do, I think. If I buy a brand new BMW (if it's non M Sport) I will definitely spec the M sport wheel.

Shit me this is tempting!!
Before I bought mine I sat in an M3 and the steering wheel alone nearly made me hard.

The wheel nut will probably be king tight. Resist the temptation to use the steering lock to hold the wheel as you undo. 99 times out of 100 it won't matter, the 100th time the lock may give!

The wheel will probably be even tighter on the splines/shaft. Don't break your nose when it finally does come off!

Mike
Funny. On mine the nut came off easy and the wheel just slipped off its splines with no real effort. Was the easiest mod I ever did. Even my Gear knob swap took more effort!

Good chance it had been off before then as mine was stuck like Rab C Nesbitt to a bottle of Buckfast!

Wouldn't have thought It had ever been off. It was an immaculate one (old) owner car with full supplying dealer history. There were no marks on the rear of the wheel where the airbag is removed and no marks on any of the torx screws etc.

Just wasn't a hard job lol. I'd suggest anyone having a hard time is unlucky

Hey Dude,

I'm not sure why the 20 min wait. I've had to do the retrofit twice and on both counts, I disconnected the -ve terminal, left the boot open (VERY IMPORTANT not to close boot after disconnecting battery) and cracked on. I didn't wait and I've had no problems touch wood.

It's truly a 15-20 min job from start to finish if you have the understanding of what you're doing. As said, happy to run through with you this weekend on the phone or if you're nearby just pop over.

If for any reason the boot has got closed during the install, pop the bonnet open, get some jump leads, connect positive to positive and negative to metal chassis and start the other car, then open your bonnet and carry on the install. Of course, don't forget to disconnect the leads from the front lol.

I waited about twenty seconds.

I pulled the battery, then just tried to flash main beams to discharge any juice left in the system. Tried the interior light too. Boot left open of course.

No issues at all

I may have to add a new steering wheel to the 'to do list' if it is as good as everyone says it is!
