Hey guys, I just wanted to say thank you for the thread. I needed this info badly. I just bought my 335i and the previous owner had them pointed waaaaay down and to the left. The drive home was sketchy at best.

Your cut off is correct for the country you're in. That's a left hand drive cut off.

thx

update: never mind I found it
Where!?! I cannot find it for the e92 LCI... I checked everywhere and looked at every picture, but I don't even see a + screw anywhere.

Nvm found it...
It's a weird lookin' screw. Although it takes more than a couple cranks to actually get it movin'

Every car's headlights aim by turning a screw. It is easy but it is also time consuming to do it properly (which I suggest everyone do once, not just crank it around). Generally, dealers do not do it properly, and the factory usually leaves something to be desired too. Generally "official" dealer/factory adjustments are too low and too far to the shoulder to build in margin of error - just like the speedo reads too high and the suspension is tuned for understeer.

Why are there so many separate threads on aiming headlights?

Great thread! I recently had some headlight work done (lights were flickering) and after getting my car back the night time visibility was not as good as it used to be. This should fix it.

Bi Xenon adjustment

My Xenons go through the self leveling at startup ok. Left is good. Right settles lower (should be a tad higher, or at least level). I tried to adjust, to no avail. Screw just rotates, beam doesn't change. I thought maybe I was missing something or perhaps coding. Mentioned it to the service tech last maintenance. BMW mechanic couldn't adjust either. Soooo, I was wondering if anyone has tried to disassemble the unit, post some pointers?

Can anyone tell me how far to the left the driver's side headlight should illuminate?

Here's my situation: I had a relavtively minor fender-bender, but the guy in front of me had a trailer hitch, so there was some damage to my front bumper and driver's side headlight. The driver's side headlight was replaced.

During the past couple of nights when I'm driving, I've noticed that the beam from the driver's side headlight seems to be very wide so that it is illuminating a good portion of the opposite lane. The vertical alignment seems fine. I don't know if I'm just being OCD about my car after the repairs or if I need to see about getting the hortizontal aim of the headlight adjusted. No one in the oncoming lane has been flashing me or acting like my lights are blinding them, so I may just be paranoid.

Any input would be welcome.

I have been dealing with my headlights throwing a short low beam for over a year now. Thanks to this thread I was able to make the adjustments necessary to finally get some light distance while driving at night...after taking some measurements I found that the cutoff on both headlights was a good 3-4" too short when shining up against a wall at 25 ft away. A few quick counter-clockwise turns later and I'm back in business. These things are finally putting down the light coverage that should be expected out of a proper HID/projector setup.

Thanks!

The left beam is SUPPOSED to be slightly lower than the right.

I'm glad I saw this. I was about to make it level with the right beam.

The pattern should look something like this for left hand drive cars. Otherwise, you'd blind oncoming traffic.
