First off. The DVD route update has to be some other types of files. 22 GB doesn't not fit on a DVD. Only Blu-ray Disc can do that. And I know our cars don't have Blu-ray drives. I recommend getting whatever update is needed updated via stealership. But that's all. Once your in the latest update. U can do the UBS route and update the maps yourself, hopefully saving you some $$. Now I don't really know what needs to be updated. Maybe I-drive firmware? But my m production date is 11/09. And some of you have newer cars but can't update. So I really don't know what's up. Is it package option? I have technology package.

Yea someone updated sucessfully via DVD, but they had to burn 3 DVD's in order to make it work. He also said that if you buy the DVD set from BMW it comes with 3 discs OR you can get it on a USB for 2013 maps. I don't know if this is true can someone confirm.

I am now downloading the torrent. Once I plug it in my car and I make sure it asks me for the code I will contact *******.

My question is, every time I want to update my nav I need a different code ? Or can I use the same code in the future ?

Successfully updated this afternoon. Took about 90 minutes for the files to transfer from the USB to the onboard HD. Thanks to ******* for the code in less than 12 hours after I paid.

Quick question guys. I have a 2009 335i Xdrive coupe with a production date of 11/2008. I have the idrive with the hard drive but the settings menu has no update option so I assume that the dealership has to update the software. Is there any way if I have a K+DCAN cable can I update the idrive unit myself so that I can install the USB map updates or is the dealer my only option?

Are you all just letting your car run outside for an hour and a half or just have it powered but not running. Concerned about battery drain without running, but I rarely drive around an hour at a time (at least during the week).

I used a battery maintainer to give it a full charge before updating.

I had no issues leaving the car's electrical on for over an hour. The angel eyes were on too.

Probably will need a new code. I tried my 2012 update FSC code with the 2013 update and it wouldn't take it; I had to get a code specific to the 2013 update. (Same car)

When I did mine, I never went to Setting menu; I plugged in the USB and it prompted me to update. I don't believe I have any Update option in my Setting menu (2010MY, 9/09 production date).

I have no idea what you might do if it doesn't work other than make an appointment with the dealer.

I am new at this so bear with me.

I upgraded my 2011 535i north america CiC i-drive nav maps with help from Sergej. He provided me with the FSC code at a reasonable price and he also provided me with the torrent link to obtain the CiC north america maps. Both came by email. See the things to keep in mind below....this worked for me!!

Here are some things to keep in mind:
1. download a good software program for torrent downloads; I used uTorrent
2. open the link Sergej provides and the torrent will start downloading to your computer's hard drive; be patient, it is 22 gig and takes at least a day and a half
3. get a good quailty USB 3.0 32 gig stick (thumb drive, dongle...whatever); I paid about $18; plug it into a USB port on your computer; download a program called teracopy to your computer; copy and paste the down loaded torrent file to the USB drive; takes about 30 minutes
4. plug the USB drive into the glove box and turn on the cars accessories and in 30 minutes or so you will have new 2013 maps

Thanks Sergej....thanks very much!!

Just Updated

Got my Tischer BMW USB Stick in the Mail today it was a small price to pay, but I think it was worth it considering I didn't have to deal with downloading, transferring to a USB etc...

I also contacted Sergej after my USB stick shipped from Tischer BMW. After sending him my Paypal payment, he replied 2 mins later with my FSC activation code for my 2010 X6M

About 30 seconds after switching the car to on

Entered my FSC code and...

40 minutes later and after a restart

Note: I only had my car switched to the "on" position the engine wasn't running. I have a 4 mile commute to work. There's no real time where I'm driving the car for 30+ minutes within a week, so I performed the update in my garage. When the update reached 90% the Battery Charge Level Low indicator came on so I started the engine for the final 5 minutes of the update.

Followed all the instructions and all worked as advertised. A huge thanks to all as the local dealers wanted in excess of $400.00 for the upgrade.

Gentlemen,

It appears with newer firmware the car doesn't ask for the activation code, It just starts to update after about a minute, I have tried this on about four other newer vehicles and none of them asked for the code...........It looks like BMW will be offering free map updates, since this is so accessible on the web they don't want other parties selling activation codes, try updating first to see if it wants a activation code.

Also you can just leave the usb plugged in the glove box until it is finished, when ever you turn off the car and start it up the next time it will pick up where it left off until such time you have logged about 45 minutes of driving time to complete the task.

Free map updates? Craziness.

I can't image them just giving it away, but I suppose anything is possible....

It is not widely advertised but some dealers will do it no charge just ask around and get it done when in for your next service.

They probably dropped using activation codes because of all the different sources available for this and if BMW cant make money with this so will nobody else.

shak, since your car is an '09 you might need an update from the dealership before it will update the maps through the USB. Also only the one in the glovebox will work for this; the one in the console will not.
