http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produc...?code=AELQT-EA it says LL04

the thicker amsoil at 5w40 has a 171 viscosity index.
The Pennzoil product I linked earlier in the thread has a VI of 178 (one of the reasons I chose it). The current date sheet doesn't quote the VI, but I have it from an earlier data sheet.

does anyone know if there is are advantages and disadvantages from using 5w30 to 5w40?
Ok......I choose Amsoil because of its superb wear protection and resitance to breakdown....not to mention ive used it in several vehicles with great results. The viscosity debate has me a little baffled....dosent the vehicle produce more HP and less fuel consumption with lower viscosity weight oils?

So...

Why doesn't Amsoil obtain the BMW LL-04 rating?!?!?

I mean, if it's superior to the other LL-04 rated oils and all that...
