Front speakers mounting depth on E93

After reading through threads all afternoon, I'm officially confused on the front midrange speaker mounting depth on the E93 (I have the hifi system). Is it the same as E92??

I've ready it's 50mm and also 35mm. What's the max that it can take without modifying the stock grills? I don't mind using the dynamat method to mount it, just don't want to touch the stock grills.

Will the DLS 4" components work? I've had DLS in my other car and enjoy them very much. If so, any specific 4" DLS that will work better with a E93?

Any recommendations for the underseat woofers if I'm going to keep the stock amp for a while?

Which system do you have? Top hifi, Hifi, stereo?? Because honestly the under seat midbasses are pretty badass, depending on which system you have.

Focal krs e93

Just ordered a set of focals 100krs for my e93, has anyone had success fitting these in e93? Bit concerned about the depth, also wondering if there is enough room for the crossover ( I know there is on e90, not sure about 93)

which DLS? You can fit a 5.25" in the front doors. I have the E93, also. Mounting depth, if there is no vent in the pole piece, is 56mm. if the pole piece is vented you don't want to go more than 50mm.

the doors on the E93 are identical to the E92. The E90 has shorter doors, as does the E91, but mounting depth is the same

The maximum depth of the E92/E93 front doors speakers is about 40mm regardless of the OEM system. Anything above that will hit the window mechanism if back loaded (behind the OEM grill). You can get extra depth (up to 10mm or so) the deeper you insert the speaker cone into the OEM grill.

The E90 front doors up to 55mm depth/65mm inserted into the OEM grill depending on the magnet size.

You will be fine, the KRS is 39mm deep.

You will have to be very creative to install the crossovers in the E93 doors.

don't install the crossovers in the door. they are sensitive pieces of electronics that do not like the hard vibration and slamming of doors. Mount them away from computers, either, in the rear at the factory amplifier (where all the speaker wires are anyway) or in the dash.

On that note, if you MUST mount them in the door, mount them as far forward as possible to keep momentum when closing the door to a minimum.

Focal will not warranty a crossover mounted in the door with inertia damage.

move them, if you can. Remember, twisted pairs for each speaker are run into the door from the amplifier in the rear. If you do not have multiple speakers in the door from the factory, and you're running the kind of power you are, the factory wire will not be sufficient. I'd recommend running new wire into the door, and leaving the crossover inside the cabin. It's not the easiest way to do it, but it is the CORRECT way to do it.

Crossover placement

Thanks for the tip. I have the base model with no tweeter (so no wiring), which was why I was going to try and fit the crossover in the door. I will now look at running new cable and install in the boot.

Anyone selling any mounting adapters I could use with the focals?

Im using technics harness so the signal is coming from the amp to the HU, and then into the factory wiring and into the doors. I never realised the factory wiring was not good

Would the best thing be to disconnect the front outputs from the harness, and wire new wire directly to the xover? My centre and underseats have aftermarket wire so they are ok.

Fixed.

The OEM wire that BMW uses is 18AWG for the mids and 12AWG for the woofers. Using this tool you can calculate if the OEM wires are good enough for the power output that you will be using and the speaker impedance: http://www.bcae1.com/images/swfs/spe...rassistant.swf

Use 15ft as the distance, which it is more than enough.

Just because the wire is OEM does not make it "not good", you need a little more technical details to properly quantify it.

Thanks.

I didn't assume they were bad quality because they were OEM. Its only because somebody mentioned that they wouldnt be sufficient. But yeah, technical details are a must as superjay probably meant they wouldn't be sufficient for high power usage.

Well that good news as i can keep most of the wiring the same. However i'd like to move the xovers asap. anyone have any ideas where i could mount them? if i move them away from the door i'll have to run some wire from the OEM speaker connector in the door to wherever i mount them.

Wherever you fit them in the car, they'll get the vibration. (or lets say hard vibration as you stated).
If they are fitted in the doors, they tend to get rotational torque forces applied when slamming the doors (and inertia) but not vibrations.
If your theory is correct, then most of the BMWs with aftermarket components should have failed xovers especially on driver side! Unfortunately there is no evidence to sugges that its happening.

Depends on the application.

I have Focal KRSII and my friend has Morel Hybrid Ovation II.
I thought Morels were better, but I was wrong.
Focal are very precise and tweeters are brighter and accurate. IF you are intending to use you HP from 125Hz onward, Focals do it perfectly.

Morels are better woofers if you are going to start your xovers from 100Hz and above. Tweeters are soft (for my taste).

Both are excellent.

Superjay says 5.25" will fit as well as mounting depths can be as much as 50/56mm. Technic says 40mm....who's right here? Also what 5.25" has anyone used in an e93?

40 mm is about it from what I have seen. The 56 mm dimension is probably referenced from the outside of the door card, when the speaker is top mounted.

Any idea what 5.25" will fit in as mentioned, if any?
