Andrew, Is there such thing as a transmission ECU flash? I hearing some guys are flashing there AT's with Alpina B3 flash with impressive performance results? If so.....is it available for the N52 with AT?

I'd still REALLY like to know what is involved in becoming an "authorized installer" for Active Autowerke so I can talk to my local shop about pursuing it.

Not really interested in dropping another $400 on a Simon tool.

I'll add my plug - the Simon tool is convenient, and for example, when your car is reprogrammed to fix the heater software, you just have to call them, get a code to toggle it back to read, and you're back in business. No need to schedule and appointment, or mail the ECU anywhere a second time.

I mean, if your shop has a dyno and can work out a better tune, awesome, but there aren't many places like that where I live.

Yeah......I've been looking at all the threads on the Alpina flash and its the 335. Any chance your software tuner would want to play around with the Trans ECU on the 328? It could be another "Ca Ching" for you guys!

Bmw hasn't even been able to fix all the issues with the Gm transmission. I highly doubt there are any performance improvement to be had without jeapordizing the life of the transmission.

Will the battery cable recall affect the tune?

You would have to ask your SA what the recall consists of. I have not had the recall done on my personal car yet.

They did mine when they reprogrammed the car for the heater issue. I think it's just a cable swap, and mounted more securely in the engine compartment. I didn't think they had to program anything.

Also, it doesn't affect all cars, my Dad's '07 328xi E92 wasn't listed in the recall (The SA checked while we were there).

Anybody use the Simon Tool successfully on a Windows 8 machine? I'm trying to download the latest tune that I got from Zak (thanks again!) and Windows 8 seems to be having issues in installing the driver for the Simon tool. It worked fine when I was on Window 7 but when I manually browse to the driver folder in Windows 8 it comes back with "The has for the file is not present in the specified catalog file. The file is likely corrupt or the victim of tampering."

What is this heater issue I keep reading about? I'm assuming my ECU won't be touched given that I'm out of warranty.

I had a problem with my heater not coming on. The car was reprogrammed for that. While it was in the shop, they did the cable, but the two weren't connected other than I was there and they had time to do the cable.

They really don't like flashing the ECU, and my SA implied the battery cable fix was physical only.

Thanks for your input. Much appreciated!

Just picked up my chariot after battery cable recall. Throttle seems just as responsive and engine as powerful as before the cable replacement. It's also chilly here today and the car always feels better when the temp drops. Don't think they had the car long enough to do anything with the ECU.

Running the AA stage 2, euro air box, 3-stage mani, 6MT so no need for AT adaptations.

So ended up using a Windows 7 VM to load the new tune to the Simon tool. Windows 8 and driver incompatibility may still be an issue though.
