I remember I bought my first decent watch, the Breitling Blackbird, in 1999 for 2800.00....that was a ton of money at the time...now same style of Breitling watch sells for 4-6k!...inflation sucks
On a side note, you guys need to be super careful when buying a watch off of eBay...I bought a JLC master compressor diving chrono awhile back in "excellent" condition and it was so scratched and abused that I sent it back to JLC factory for repair and they wanted 6000.00 to fix it all...they wanted 2800.00 just to replace the bezel! I will never buy from a individual off of eBay ever again...Timezone is more reliable IMHO. |

don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good 45 every now and again, but generally most of my watches are around that 40-42 mark. If you like flashy watches, always go 44 or higher.... A lot of chronos will be 44-45mm as well. |

Well, hearing this, i'm leery about buying a Sea Dweller I saw on ebay.
My local jeweler is having trouble finding me an M or Z Sea Dweller in new condition. I found one on ebay that seemed to be everything I wanted, but now I'm not sure. I really prefer to do business with my local jeweler, even if i pay more, I know I'm getting exactly what I pay for. |

The car is 1.3mil so I don't think anyone would squak at 300k to match the car. There is a lot of other watches in the same price range I would take over that one, but I can't afford 300k for a watch so the point is moot anyway.

I have a ss/yellow gold datejust 2 with a black face and roman numerals, I'm looking to buy a new more casual watch either a submariner, black face, no date, or a gmt master 2 with the new black and blue bezel. Any suggestions?

You can't go wrong with a pre-ceramic Submariner, money in the bank. Their value is going up all the time. There's a few watches that are super solid investments like steel Subs. They're just great watches too. Not so pricey that you are afraid to wear daily and scratch or damage, great looks and quality.
My first Sub was destroyed in my motorcycle crash, and I finally was able to replace it. Just brought this new one home yesterday, an M series Date Sub. |

M Sub is the last series made before they changed to the ceramic bezel and larger case design.
The ceramic models are quite expensive, and as is the case with many things when buying new, you take the depreciation hit as soon as it is purchased. It will be some time I think before the ceramic Subs go up in value unless bought used. There's many many mint, unworn, pre-ceramic Subs for sale, and here you're going to spend around 5 grand, but I'd bet at any time thereafter you'd be able to sell it for as much or more. |

Very cool! Post up some pics.
I really like the dateless Subs and Sea Dwellers without the cyclops. Buying new is nice, you know what you're getting. I know I said buying used is also a good way to go, but I have to admit one of the reasons for this aside from depreciation is I can't afford to buy new. Enjoy your new watch. I love my Submariner, it's my favorite. |
