A while later I had a bone stock '92 GT 5-speed and kinda wanted to baseline my car so I asked if he wanted to run so I would get an idea of what I would need to beat him. My car didn't feel anywhere near as quick as his. Long, boring story short, my car would put about 10 cars on his to 120. Probably close to a second quicker in the quarter... I would say he legitimately had a 15-second car. Even our buddy's SHO would throw him a beating now and again. But I'll be damned if it didn't feel quick from the passenger seat. Sounded good, too. lol
It always feels faster as a passenger.

The other reason the subaru's feel faster, especially tuned, is the mountain of torque that hits right away on stock turbos. This rapid and significant change in accelleration rate (note the word "change") feels much faster than the smooth steady and flat torque of the TT I6, especially with short gear ratios. I have to admit, it is a blast rowing through the short gears of the STi 6 speed. I felt like the 335i was a dog stock, but it was a lot faster than my subaru at some of the early stages of my modding.
