"Trunking"? Sounds like some sort of Internet fad.

If you have comfort access and left the key fob inside the trunk it may open by itself and probably won't let you shut the trunk

Weird, never heard of this before. Maybe there's something wrong with the lock it self. Or something is stuck inside the lock.

Carrying anything in your pocket with the keys? I notice the trunk button on my fob getting pressed when I get in and out of the car sometimes.

I had an '06 325i that was doing this, especially every time that I hit a bump. It ended up that there was a broken wire in the loom that goes from the body into the trunk lid that was arcing, and causing the trunk to intermittently unlock.

This is happening while I'm driving.

Something similar happened to me on my 300C SRT8. The manual trunk release wire/pull thingy that is accessed from inside the trunk attached to the trunk liner with velcro. The previous owner had velcroed it too snug (wire too taught). This would cause the trunk to pop from time to time. Took me a bit to figure this out.

Probably not much help to you though - I can't remember what our trunk release looks like, but don't think it is velcroed anywhere.

If it's a broken wire, it will be back. I thought that it was a bad latch, and had it at the dealer twice before they figured it out. I would back down the driveway, and as soon as the back tires dropped off the easement, the trunk light would come on. I would get out, close it, drive down to the corner, through the intersection, and it would come on again.

Don't know if its associated issue or not, but my Z4 would randomly pop the trunk on start up. Clearly electrical /software in my case and went away after a software update. When last were you at a dealer for a service. There are some running software updates that will not make it to the level of tsb, but occur when you take it in for whatever reason and it gets hooked up.
