I had sold couple of things to get this sorted mate, and then ended up buying 6 channel amp.

I will buy it soon mate.

How is your unit going? Tried other features?

Noticed in some areas it doesn't give a googlemaps url when requesting absolute address (but you do still have the general region - 200 yard radius) and when calling drops in a "," so the link doesn't take you anywhere. Going to see if I can sort that out!

Remove Fuel Pump Fuse ??

DIY/ Aftermarket options of making your BMW secure - another suggestion

Is removing the (2 ??) fuel pump fuses an option or would it cause problems if they tried to start it ?

Good question ^^

Also has anyone fitted a louder siren? What wires do you have to splice? Having heard mine this weekend I doubt it would put fear into a bunny.

check this link... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E60-E6...041906d&_uhb=1 Finding hard to believe this whisper of a siren is fitted to RR's

Having recently purchased my car and having had a good read of this thread, I'd like to do something about my OBD.

Does anyone know of somewhere around South East London that I could take the car to get the port moved? DIY on the car is not one of my strong points unfortunately!

If you car qualifies for security update, book your car.
And check what phil has posted.
I guess that is a decent lock.

Thanks- how do I know if the car qualifies? (apologies if I've missed it in the thread!)

From what I was reading, it didn't seem to be clear cut that the security update completely resolves the problem.

Will also check out that lock as well.

If your car is built after 03/2007, then they should update your car.
You can contact them on this or this number to confirm.

Referring to the topic "Add a switch to cut power supply to coilpack", what would happen if the thief tries to start the car multiple times? I know that the car engine will not fire if the coil pack has no electricity, but does it flood the engine with petrol unnecessarily?

Thanks for this post, quite shocked at what can be done nowadays to steal cars, hadn't even heard of OBD theft before this
Ima get started on some of these ASAP

Which would you say is best to do first or should be a priority if time / money is an issue

I have a louder siren fitted and it beats the OEM sound of a microwave. Damn those Germans for having laws/regulations against loud sirens!

Also have the glass break and it's quite clever. A guy outside dropped some glass and it differeniated and did not sound the alarm. Even in the rain it has been good. It picks up silent glass break too which is what thieves are now doing.

As for your car being safe after 03/2007 that is the biggest load of codswollop they are feeding customers. They tried to feed me that bullshit as my car is 01/2007. At the end of the day if you have an electronic key you are at risk! Fact.

I had a massive argument with Cooper Reading about this as they left me vulnerable telling me that I did not require the update.

Moving OBD port and warranty

Shortly I'm due to pick up my 2009/59 E92 330d from the dealer.

I've already asked the dealer about this problem and, predictably, they said not to believe everything you read on Internet forums. Also they said that they have the BMW technical notes that show what the fixes are to stop OBD port theft.

Some forums appear to imply that the fix just stops the remote window unlocking and has nothing to do with the OBD port. If so, the car is still vulnerable to the window being smashed and the OBD being accessed that way.

I asked about moving my OBD port so that I'm 100% sure it's not vulnerable and asked if this would potentially invalidate my warranty. The salesman said he was unsure, but that it could if I started moving the OBD port myself.

Are there any questions I can ask the dealer so that I am sure that they're doing their best to sell me a car which has at least some level of protection against OBD theft? Can I put any pressure on them to move the OBD port themselves for me so as not to invalidate my warranty?

Any advice appreciated!

Ask them to update your car modules to avoid any theft.

There is a lot of confusion around what is security update and how it works?

I will try to explain.

There are two modules which should be updated for the security purpose;

1- CAS: Vital: With updated software, you cannot clone a new key, till you insert you ket into the slot.

2- FRM: Important but not mandatory: With the updated software, it avoids the dropping of the window with the key/ other methods.

A good dealer should update both of these, but in common practice, I have seen some of them updating just CAS.

HTH.

Thanks very much makkan00, I have posed the questions to my dealer and await their response!

Are you aware if there are any instances of OBD port style theft occurring *after* the CAS security update has been applied?
