CDV - get rid of it!

Just replaced my CDV valve with one of these:

http://www.burgertuning.com/bmscdv.html

All I can say is - what an improvement!. Looking at the OEM valve, it's a wonder the clutch engages at all. The hole inside is smaller than a pinhead!

I was fed up with not being able to change gear smoothly (passengers getting 'nodding head' syndrome in low gears!) but normality has now been restored.

And before anyone tells me I have now put my clutch at risk, I have been driving for over 40 years and never once had to replace a clutch in any car I've owned. So I don't feel I need nanny BWM to protect my driving style with a damper valve.

Worth the money? Absolutely!

Did this last year what a difference just now have to remember to be slower on the clutch pedal otherwise I dont get the stick in place quickly enought. Shame there is no short shift kit for 320D.

Wouldn't IMO bother ordering from US just buy one from dealer and use a narrow punch / drill bit to push out the rubber/plastic bit and metal washer. Same resut and probably cheaper then from US did this to mine no problems

I wouldn't bother with the replacement valve. I just took my CDV out and connected the lines back up.

The cdv has a little was washer inside which you can push out.

That's all they mean by a ported cdv!

I did this on my previous car and was a good improvement. I also added a clutch stop underneath the pedal which shortens the travel

When you get a spare CDV one end is wider then the other. Clamp the CDV gently in a vice and insert a loose fitting old drill bit / allan eky into the narrown end. Insert using the square end of the drill bit.

Give it a good gentle hit with a hammer to push out the washer and rubber bung through the wider end

done

Thanks Magic77.

Anybody know of any half decent garages that would do this? Around the M1.

Anymore details please, as I am 5 mins from Junc 14.

I may have confused things a little - I am originally from Watford (Herts) but am temporarily in Milton keynes for 6 months or so.

J16 would be perfect for me, if its something he has done and knows great!

Know anybody for installing Parking Sensors/Tints by any chance?

Thanks in advance!

Jimbo, Magic, Phil - thanks for the tips...

Got the CDV ported on Saturday, does make a difference - however the clutch pedal is still a bit too low for me.... (

Maybe the clutch is on its way with over 100k on the clock now.

If by that you mean the pedal travel is too long, why not fit one of these?

I am finding the biting point a bit too low, compared to the wifes Golf.

Also still have a bit of clutch judder.

with cdv removed you will feel far more clutch then before as its more direct feedback. However if bitting point is too low it could be on way out. Only way is to compare with another car.

The clutch pedal stops will reduce the travel from full but not the clutch point. Need to find a local member to compare to.

As far as I know, all E9X 3-series with a manual transmission have one.
