Wanted - Blacked out/Smoked tail lights for E90 328i sedan

Ok - so after browsing through 15 pages in this section, I gave up and decided to start a new topic for what my question is and what I am looking for.

Recently I have seen a couple of E90 335i's go by with a blacked out set of tail lights...they look awesome and I almost asked one of them to stop on the side so that I could ask where he got them from.

I have read about the blackline, etc. but these were blacked out....almost looked like tinted. I have read about spray painting them versus tinting them. Any suggestions?

I have a E90 328i 4 sedan - sapphire black metal color. Of course I would not want to spend a few hundred dollars on it so what in the opinion of the folks here is the best route?

Also know of any good shops that can either spray paint or tint it for me in the San Jose, Santa Clara area?

Thanks in advance fella's

That would be great if you can! How does it hold up though? Does it start to peel off after a while? I have heard/read that if its in a place where it rains a lot or the weather is rough sometimes, tint/vinyl starts to peel off.

Remove the tails when you tint and wrap it around to the inside this way it'll be safer in the harsh weather. But I don't recommend tail lights to have tint put on them for insurance purposes even though I love the looks. Well good luck

Size: 176.8 KB bad pic iphone not that good at taking pictures in direct sunlight but you get the jist, i would recommend vinyl as apart to the nightshade spray or whatever its called, due to you not having to worry about doing even coats and the vinyl once heated is pretty pliable.

Yeah the film is probably the cheapest & easiest option plus it's reversible. You can also get some sprays and just do it yourself too.

Be careful with the blacked out tails though, if you get rear ended by joe blow all he has to do is say he couldn't see that you were braking because you blacked out your tail lights. Since its illegal to modify them in a way that reduces the visible light you might end up being responsible for the collision (on paper anyway) and get slapped with a fine from the police.

If you are careful with the tint you choose you will probably be ok though

yep this is true thats why i only went with the smoked look not the complete blackout, half the cars where i am either have only one front light working or no back lights working so i fit right in

Yea I was planning on doing the same thing to my 335i. Just make sure that if you are going to tint them that you don't go to dark. Like mentioned above, if you go to dark and people can't see when you're breaking, then you could run into some problems down the line. I would say don't go under 50% but thats just a suggestion.

Do you know if these are plug and play or need some work? Also these look like they are for Pre-LCI.. Do they throw error codes?

If I had a pre-lci E90, the only option for the rear would be a LCI conversion. It'd be my first mod.

From what i can tell from the description and the pictures, it looks like you use the factory harness and plugs, so i see no reason it would throw codes...
the only concern i would have with them is quailty and fitment? i guess you always try and if it doesn't fit right or seems cheap, Amazon has a fairly decent return policy.

If they do fit and are good quality then 190.00 for the set is a awesome deal compared to other tail lights i've seen out there. (Last pic is the back of the factory tailight.)

Thanks for the effort to explain it to me. I don't think these would fit my car though as they are Pre LCI and mine is a LCi

Then why are blacklines an option? Those only available for pre-LCI.

If you have an LCI E90, you'd be a fool to touch those beauties.
