49ers season tickets. Good investment?

The niners is finishing up their new stadium in the county I live in. They have been selling season tickets and are 80% sold. To buy season tickets you must first buy the license for the seat(s). They range from a few grand to tens of thousands for the license per seat. The season tickets are about $100 and up depending on what kind of seats you buy (more expensive licenses have more expensive seats).

A buddy of mine bought 2 licenses ( 2 seats) for $12k. Those are corner seats at the bottom deck. For those seats tickets are $150 each for the regular season. He thinks it's a good investment because he could sell individual tickets above face value as well as selling the seats back in the future for a profit. Of course he will be going to games here and there. Is it a good investment? I'm curious because it's something I might also be interested in.

In my experience it is not worth it to buy for just one team. You can put them up for sale early but there are others with similar tickets who sell for a lot cheaper for certain games because they have a shit ton of other tickets. Plus buyers on ticket traders will hold out until the very last minute in which you will keep lowering the price to sell. Unless you have other games to offset profits/losses or have first row seats the games are not a lock. As an example, my boss at work with a couple of buddies have tickets for almost every good team across the country in every sport. He took 7 years to build it and has about 500k invested in it and profits are around 30k a year. Some of his seats are floor seats and within the first few rows. I mean im talking almost every songle team that makes playoffs. Lakers clippers steelers brewers celtics cardinals dodgers angels knicks and that is not even the start of it. Lol. Ive tried this with season tickets before and have consulted with him and he said its very hard. The first 5 years they operated at a loss or break even. Dont expect to be making $$$ with a couple seats to one great team.

Not every game will get above face value.

I wouldn't do it unless your a big fan and would enjoy going to the games on a regular basis and can afford to do so.

Like others said people wait until last minute which is stressful. So many factors that you can't control like the weather. Also how the team is playing that year and if you do it you better have lower level seats. And the fees on sites like stubhub and eBay are ridiculous and Craigslist you will deal with scammers low ballets and ticket brokers.

I have season tickets to the Steelers... When they Opened the new Stadium in 2001 they asked for seat license $$$. Basically I own the 2 seats. I paid $1500/seat in 2000. I can now sell each for $25,000. It is a great investment in my eyes. I know Pittsburgh isn't your normal Football town and they have a following like no other. but your seat licenses should only go up in value. My tickets are 15 rows off the field on the Goal line. I pick the games I want to go to and sell the rest at a profit and basically pay for the next years tickets with the profits.

Exactly my point... Getting season tickets isn't a short term 1-2 year investment. Stick with it and they will appreciate accordingly. With Seat licenses, once they are all sold, there may as well not be a waiting list. You determine who gets the tickets when you die or are done with them.

if you don't want to bother selling tickets for individual games, you could also find partners and sell them 1/2 or 1/3 of the games. knew someone who did that with laker tix and worked out well.
