Can someone please clarify SSG vs LCI DCT and M3 DCT?

I actually believe I know the difference; the question is what will I encounter tomorrow when I try to install my M3 DCT paddle shifters.

I have a 2010 335 AT. I know it's an LCI because of the hood and taillights. My paddle shifters are the SSG type (the silver globular up/down bilaterally type). Will my newly purchased M3 DCT paddles be plug and play?

As I understand, it should be. It wouldn't be if I didn't have any paddles to begin with, OR if I had the LCI DCT style shifters (I believe they are black with silver trim?). That would require either a harness of re-wiring, correct?

So will I have to be doing some re-wiring?

Thanks for any info

Well, BMW makes specific wheels for SSG & DCT paddles. Sport wheels use SSG, M3 use DCT, etc. Even the Performance (non-electronic) wheels come in (2) different versions - one with yellow stripe for SSG, one with blue stripe for DCT.

The M3 wheels are obviously made for DCT paddles.

Difference is in the paddle cutouts - SSG is 'L-Shaped' and DCT is rectangular.

While you CAN mount the DCT paddles in the SSG L shaped cutouts - you have to trim the wheel, & even then, the DCT paddles will supposedly stick further away from the wheel - making them closer to the column levers. This is according to posts on the forum I found while searching.

I recently mistakenly bought the Performance wheel for SSG paddles, but I have DCT paddles - I wasn't about to cut on a new wheel, or deal with misalignment, so I sold the wheel & ordered the Performance wheel for DCT.

Before, I had the M3 tri-stitched wheel FOR DCT paddles - so I didn't know there was a difference till it was too late.

Check backside of wheel you have and see what shape the cutout is...

Just tryin to pass along what I found out - wish I would have known this info before I purchased.

Just completed the swap. On my 2010 LCI with SSG paddles, it was a total plug and play. DCT paddles fit fine and function as they should.

Thanks for the help
