Went to TWM Performance Today to see the newest shifter
Since I've seen the competition shifter I immediately fell in love with it. He let me try the prototype in my car to see the feel of these shifter. The aluminium one is really nice in term of weight but was a bit too long to shift in reverse (can still shift in reverse but touch the steering wheel a bit. I settled on a 7" delrin one (wich I will pick up when they come out of production).
Here is the pictures of the prototypes in my car (sorry dirty car) 7 inch delrin : 10 inch aluminium : They uses a unthreaded shift adapter to add thread to the shifter to allow their different shifter to screw-in. The adapter is machined really really well and allow no play at all on the shaft. I also asked about SS kit for our car and they have a 135i out but doesnt fit 335 and 335xi. I'll be waiting patiently and try to be the test car for when they want to test it out.

I have my perforated //M shifter as well but this is going to be useful on track day ! Also I always loved those long shifter that get the shifter close to the steering wheel.

... isn't it the longer the shifter the more distance you need to move the stick to shift?
It might make sense for those race car with sequential gearbox, where you only push and pull and you have it closer to your hand next to the steering wheel. I am confused, but then again I know nothing about tracking and racing. |

It does increase shift travel (by a smal amount) but on another side increase the leverage, place the shifter closer to the steering wheels and is One of a kind. The 10 inch one was way too long and made the shifter like a 18 wheelers but the 7 inch made it really nice. It the same concept as the jaffster shift knob which is higher and shaped like a handle.
Not sure why all the hate here when IMO Function is more important than style. It's not a shifter for everyone that's for sure but is a better alternative dans the jaffster one and it's a great quality shifter. Even if it's not a dedicated rce car it's a better shift knob and increase, for me, the driving pleasure. Also the knob will be a showstopper for sure because it's really unusual.

I have the M shift knob, which is shorter than stock (and weighted). Not sure I'd ever give it up, especially with a dildo.
