Noticed something odd with my seat belt latches today...

Anyone have Velcro wrapped around them? No it wasn't the previous owner (I am the first owner). I don't recall doing this myself, unless I was completely hammered one night

Mine are like that too. I think it's to protect the leather panel from rubbing

Because I spend more time looking at my gauges and out my windshield than down at my crotch when driving?

Yea surprisingly that's BMWs solution. Looks like a simple DIY mod but it works...

Could also function to deter squeaks as the car ages. My Audi seat belt latches squeaks when it rubs against anything especially when it's cold.

Had same thoughts when I saw it myself when I bought the car.. Practical but probably one of the tackiest in the interior.

Also for the Coupe you need to move the motorised seats forward to let people in the back. Velcro removes the possibility of the buckle gouging out the centre console wall when this is done.....

Apparently I stare at my crotch a lot because I noticed this the first day I bought my e92.. Figured it was to deter rattling of the buckle against the center console.

It's intended to reduce rattles when the buckle is unfastened. Left loose, they bang against the center console. My E46 buckle used to bang and rattle against the center console all the time. I noticed this treatment on my E91, and after a few dollars worth of velcro, problem solved on the E46.

I have it too - I thought the PO did it to stop a rattle or something.

Mine could have used those. The latch has scratched all over the center console. The latch is black, the console is beige, so there are some terrible black smudges on the console.

Funny. I bet the conversation went something like this.

Test Vehicle driver- The new E90 is great but the seat belt rattles

Product development - Shit! We didn't think of that! Should we send it up to engineering?

Sales - Hell no! Those A-holes will push back the release by another 2 months coming up with something that doesn't work! I have a role of Velcro in my glove box, lets just stick that on it.

All three together BRILLIANT!

HAHA- classic
This wouldn't be the same team that came up with the seatbelt butler some time after, would it?
