Carbon problems N55?

Hello

Somebody heard something or had problems with carbon build-up?

I'm hoping the N55 is less affected...

Much less affected- this is coming from a BMW engineering trainer I had the privilege of speaking with at my friend's wedding last week

The N55 is just as direct-injected (haha) as the N54. It may have slightly better CCV system but I don't think anything short of an extra injector in the intake manifold is going to keep carbon away. That's how Audi/MB do it now, and they don't have the carbon problems we do because gasoline is actually spraying the intake valves. They also use it for cold start and supplemental fueling in certain circumstances, IIRC.

Take it to a shop for carbon cleaning after 30k miles if your concerned for about $300.00 and clean it right up. It does help with the performance but wtf do I know... I just like to set it and forget it and drive it :-)

Just wondering if BMW made some thoughts with the N55 about it after the problems with the N54

I'll find out tomorrow, but from the horses mouth the N55 is significantly less problematic than the N54 when it comes to carbon, among other things.

And if you do it or done it: we need some feedback (maybe some pics before cleaning)

I am bringing this one back hoping that there is some updated info out there. I am starting to get a rough idle at times, sometimes it surges and it seems laggy at times. It seems a lot like carbon buildup, but I am not sure. 47k miles on it. Not sure if it is plugs or something possibly too, but no CEL. I am still under CPO to 100k.

I just replaced my plugs at 60,000km (apx 37,000 miles) the last 10, 000km W/ JB4 Stage 2 on Map5. I noticed a difference the first time I started the engine, idles much smoother and very strong acceleration again.
