I may have a leak. not sure yet. That bronze looking collar is loaded with an oily substance. May be CV seal leak.

Car won't go in until 7/28

yes the cv boot is supposed to be filled with a special grease. over time the boot dryrots and the grease begins to come out, the biggest cause of the joint going bad is not lack of grease, but the dirt getting into the boot.

is that collar oily? it looks to me like condensation from the a/c system, if its not oily its just the water dripping from the ac system sweating and is rusting that collar

nothing really, i guess if you wanted to be real anal about it you could try like armor all or something on it. the problem is the rubber is subjected to the engine heat, anything that leaks from the car (oil, antifreeze, gas) and also exposed to those from the road, and salt. they normally last a long time without any treatment

Yep, collar is oily. The opposite side is not. Watched an oil line grow on the collar over a two week period. Now it's covered. Not sure of source. Going to get it checked out in a couple weeks. Long wait for loaner

My CV boot just went out.. I guess it's common with 330xi's. Anybody have more info on this? Bumped because don't think I should start a new thread for this.
