hi folks, thought i will write some updates...
went to another gearbox specialist, who said totally different things...
car has been test driven and checked for any error codes, no faults.
guy suggested to change the transmission fluid and filter to see what its like (viscosity/colour/contamination).
got it done today, it was reasonably clean and filter wasnt clogged...
mechanic said that it doesnt look to him like this is the torque converter issue,
as it should give more noticeable symptoms...
i've got confused, im down 280 for the service after taking the car for a motorway cruise i need to sadly admit that the fault whatever it is is still present...
in the meantime i have done some research and i am a lot more clued about the zf gearbox, also know where to get necessary parts within reasonable budget...
i do not really want to spend 1k to find the problem did not get solved...

I had a similar issue, turned out it was the cheap n nasty hid angel eye kit that was causing big electrical noise and corrupting messages to and from the gearbox, in effect getting it to select gears it couldn't possibly engage due to the speed the car was going. Banging thudding and all sorts of strange things. Simply turning the angel eye off made the issue go away. ( found this out the long and hard way.. After changing the gearbox and getting the same problem).. Then simply removing the hid kit solved it and been no issues for 40k miles (at least with the gearbox!!!)

ok how did u find out that was the issue?
i have had m sport conversion so the fog lights are different but thats about it, they are genuine bmw items tho...
also the noise/vibration developed quite a few days after this has been done, about a 3 days after remapping... it actually happened after a long journey too,
it was not there right after any of the mods...

Maybe you should have the map removed and put the car back to standard to see if the problem goes away. If so you then know what the problem is or what could of helped cause it.
Then it's upto you cut your losses and leave the car standard or see if the map can be adjusted to suit your car before you go down the gear box route.

latest update... new map has been implemented yesterday, did not get a chance to dyno it but torque curve has been changed to lower the figures, couple of check ups done today on the occasion of installing new brakes in the rear and there is a wear on drivers side rear suspension bushes... this can cause the symptoms from what i have been told by the mechanics... so... this can be the issue! i am waiting to install Bilstein B8 shocks so on the go i will probably throw the set of Powerflex bushes and i quietly hope this will be it then... fingers crossed!
