2013 BMW 330d  [0.00]
330 Brake Pads

Just bought a 330i Sport Plus Edition, got 14k on the clock and the OBC is showing that its due new rear pads in 1k, fronts have still got 7k left on them.

IMO thats a pretty short life for a set of brake pads! and shouldn't the front pads wear faster than the rears. What sort of mileage are other owners getting out of a set of pads and which wear harder fronts or rears??

Any info would be appreciated!

Hi ya,

It's all based on driving style etc. I had new discs and pads fitted on mine by bmw by previous owner and the fronts say 29000 and the rears 3000!

The rears are new so I'm guessing thge idrive was not reset properly

How much have you got left on the pads? do they look low?

Rear pads look low yes, would have been very surprised if they had been changed like I said the car is on 14k miles

The rears wear faster on these cars as the DTC uses the rear brakes to brake wheels that are loosing traction.

That must be a hell of a lot of traction control action to wear them out that quickly

Crikey someone has been giving it the beans. I replaced my rear pads at 30K with the original fronts still going strong and I like to put my foot down. Some days you can smell the rear brake pads when I pull up at work - 14 junctions in the 10 mile commute.

And the other extreme is 95k miles from my set of pads/discs. My dirve involves a weekly motorway evening trip to London and back - 80% of my mileage.

And if you have active cruise control, it uses the rear brakes to keep you to speed going down hills...

I've covered around 3k now since owning the car and remaining distance left on the pads is still 1k, I do mainly motorway driving though, does this suggest very hard driving from the previous owner?

Probably but not necessarily. If it has/had runflats then the rubbish grip will necessitate the traction control activating (via rear brakes) every time you pull briskly out of a junction in the damp/wet. That was what made me change to non-runflats. Diesels are probably worse in this regard due to their huge low end torque.
