H&R springs+Koni Sport or something else



So I have a doubt.
I have H&R springs on my 2007 330XD but the ride is to stiff.
Now i am thinking either to take koni yellows or some cheap coilovers.
I don't want to go with kw as I will sell the car in year or two so I don't want to throw to much money away.
I am leaning towards cheap coilovers as i go for skiing sometimes so a larger clearance from the road would be nice.
Are coilvers stiffer/harsher than h&r and oem shocks?

They are sport version ... Problem is not with the springs...Problem is with OEM shocks as they are to long and when you lower your car you can feel even smallest bump,not to mention big ones..it feels like your car will brake apart.
I am not sure if KONI sport are shorter than OEM and I am afraid my car will drop even further down. It is ok while I am on my 19'' but winter on 17'' or 18'' it would be to low :/

There are no cheap coikovers for the e90 xi that I'm aware of. .
I have Koni yellow with H&R sports and love my ride.

Did you trim the bump stops? I do not think the stock shocks are longer than aftermarket.

It kinda sounds like you should put your OEM springs back on if you're concerned about being too low with H&R sport springs on.

As Stash said there aren't really any cheap coils, and if there were, you generally get what you pay for.

No i did not...mechanic to whom I gave to install them did not do it...
Is that big issue? I heard some people fitting e36 m3 bumpstops instead rather than cutting them.
If i have to trim them..how much i should remove?

stashtrey can you post few pictures with koni?Did you had springs on stock shocks and if you did ,is your car any lower than on stock?

You need to either trim the stock stops approx 1" off the thicker end, or use e36 m3 front and Z4M rear stops. Otherwise you'll be riding around on crushed bump stops and the ride will be very harsh.

HOWEVER the H&R's are already pretty stiff for stock shocks so going to Konis or similar with the shorter stops is always advised. Eibachs are softer springs and some report the ride is not so bad on stock shocks, though I would never recommend this, esp on older stockers. Unless you do all the work yourself and know what you're doing. Given installation + alignment costs it is a false economy to install anything but good perf shocks with lowering springs.

Note Bilstiens do not req bump stop cutting they come with them inside (front) and their own external stops (rear).

I saw one of bumpstops broken... obviously i need to order e36m and z4m stuff ASAP .. thank you... I will look for other shocks also as this OEM are probably due for change anyhow.They have 220 000 km

BTW this situation is a really good example of how many things are going on that you have to pay attention to in order to determine a complete remedy.

Complaint: Lowering springs on stock shocks too harsh.

Oh, wait, with no bump stop trimming. (so trim stops)

Oh, wait, with H&R's. (softer springs like eibachs or ZSP)

Oh, wait, stock shocks with 220k km (replace shocks with Koni or similar)

Oh wait, the stops are crumbling (so let it "settle" some more).

etc.

When the problems are all of the following together: old shocks, too stiff springs, old untrimmed stops. But then with 220k I'd imagine major bushings need attention as well as a lot of other stuff.

Well... car is 2007 and bushings are almost as new apart from forward ones that I have replaced.Car was mostly driven on higways so it looks like brand new. Inside and outside.Stops have been replaced when I bought H&R springs but I did not have idea that I have to shorten them :/ ...
I am going most probably for KONI sport or Bilstein B6 or similar

my bigest problem with high milage is automatic transmission and x drive it self ... Will have to renew those asap ((
