Police Rader

Hi,

I was driving this morning at 1.30am when i noticed there was a police car parked on the other side of the road facing my side of the road.

My first thought was do they have a speed cam or something? They didn't try to stop me, so i turned back, parked next to them and rolled my window down. I asked them if they were checking speeds of cars here and he said "yes we are and you've been speeding at 45mph". I asked him if he had a radar and he said yes it's built in to the car. I then asked him so what happens, and he said i'd get reported

I'm just wondering will i definitely get reported for it? I have a feeling he might have been lying just to get me worried? I thought they had special radar vans for this sort of thing, but this was just a normal marked estate car.

Also i returned to the area 5 minutes later and they were gone. I saw them again at the next set of traffic lights and i think they were heading back to the police station. I'm thinking why would they do a radar speed check at 1.30am on a tuesday morning, its literally dead in Northampton after 11. Also aren't these operations more during the day and for a good couple of hours?

That's bs there's no way he was sitting there trapping at that time. They won't make enough money

Sounds like he fobbed you off because you challenged what he was doing. No stress

They do have ANPR build in now on most sides, if he was doing a speed trap you will find out in a few weeks. Thing is he might just ignore it as the time of night and road conditions and maybe your driving was ok considering the speed! There is suppose to be more police at night as that is when alot of theifs are about!

Something else they can do now...
If they are sat in the slow lane on the motorway. If you come up behind them like a bat out hell they can tag your car on there system. It will then monitor mileage from then, all they do is leave you 10 minutes then accelerate to catch you up. They camera system will then see your car and stop monitoring and work out your average speed! So they can still do you even without being there! I got shown this system recently and it was on a traffic car!

I'm really hoping you're right. I'm hoping he just was trying to BS me and they were simply just checking ANPR readings.

It's ridiculous that police are out at 1.30am, just trying to get people tickets, if thats what they were doing. The whole town is totally dead and 45mph is not very dangerous at that time. It wasn't a residential area, was an in town roundabout leading onto a 2 lane stretch.

What was the speed limit of the road you were travelling on?

The chances are they were having a spliff at the side of the road and you pitched up and put them off, hence they spun you a porkie which made you poop yer pants

Monies on you won't hear a thing, if you do let the local cuntstabulary (sp ) know the traffic cops deal in drugs.

Usually, if they don't ticket your on the spot you won't be getting a ticket at all.

The speed limit was 30mph, but it wasn't a residential road. Was a 2 lane road in town, totally dead. I know this doesn't count for much.

I really hope you're right and they were just doing something. When i pulled up the lady driver was on her mobile phone (surely that's not legal) and i had to speak to the passenger officer.

To the guys saying no ticket on the spot means no ticket. I don't think this is true because last year they had mobile radar vans and they sent me a little letter in the post But that was a proper radar van so i'm still hoping this was BS!

Bollocks.

The wooden tops use laser to measure speed which is highly directional. He would have had to have his window down pointing a laser gun at your car for a minimum of three seconds to get a reading.

Bet he pissed himself laughing when you drove off.....

I've been busted before by a car just like that parked on the side of the road at stupid o'clock in the morning. The car had video recording equipment in it but the cameras themselves were 150 feet behind the car reeled out mounted on a small tripod placed beside the road.

by the time you saw the suspicious looking car you were busted seconds before.

Not saying thats whats happened to you , but these systems are out there
