Unhappy Helpppp, Car Don't Start

Hi there guys I brought BMW 320d m sport 2010 plate, damaged just panel damage, and the airbags are deployed.

The thing is that I got a good battery in the boot and I tried to start the car but it don't start, then if I put a booster pack on the front it starts. So I though starter motor and alternator was faulty soo I took them both out took them too the shop he said there is nothing wrong with them they are like new and tested them both and are fine.

Soo I just put both of them back on and tested the current in the boot of the battery and the current is just running from the battery and losing it's power and the alternator is not charging it.

But where you jump start the car from the engine bay it show that current is good and alternator charging etc.

Does this mean that Battery Terminal Cable/Positive Lead has broke because of the crash.

If so would the car still start?

If I have to put a positive lead do I have to take it all the way to
The engine bay, because someone said to me that the positive lead that you change you don't have to take it all the way to the engine bay it's just near the rear seats is that true?

I know when my good battery is in the boot and I try too start it and it don't start because not all the power from the battery is going through the leads so I have to jump start it. The only power that go from the battery through leads just starts up the ignition and shows all the lights on the dash and use the radio etc.

Does any one know what the problem is????

Can someone please help me would mean a lot

Thank you very much
Ash

theres a pyrotechnic device that fires in the trunk that disconnects power when you wreck. yours went off. you will have to replace that thing. it is on top of the battery.

when it fires, the car shouldn't start but things like hazard warning lights should work.

I'm no expert but I believe there is a device that will shut off your car once the airbags are deployed (Sits on top of the battery in the trunk). I'm not sure if it would prevent you from starting it again, but it might be worth a shot checking it out.

Cheers guys,

But my car starts lol with a booster pack lol.

So do I have to change the unit that sits on top of the battery mines is red one.

And what about the positive lead do I have to change that?

It's pain that the car is doing this. Is there no way I can bypass it. Or get my car to start the normal way then using a boster to start it

Thanks ash

The power distribution block

That sits on top of the battery has some fusible links in it.
If you open that file I sent you on the electrical system it describes
the block in detail . If one of the links blows you have to buy a new fuse strip
which is between 40 to 80 US bucks approximately .
I would start checking where you are getting the correct battery voltage at the three power cables that go to the front
and it should be real close to what it is at the battery.

page 7 of attachment

"Depending on the severity of an accident incurred, the MRS control module will provide a signal to the BST which will disconnect the B+ cable going to the Starter & Alternator. In the event that the BST is activated, power will continue to be supplied to the rear power distribution box (a fused/protected power distributor) to allow activation of all other vehicle systems (such as hazard lights, power locks, power windows, Engine Electronics etc.)."

looks like connection to starter and alternator are severed at the battery, everything else continues to have power.

Mike , I just had the file , I liked your explanation

I learned something.
I suppose and easy check would be to check the voltage
at the jump points under the hood.

Am using the same positive lead I just by pass it. Just open up red box on the positive lead and there a little black thing that stop the current going you take the out and it works and BMW charge 105 pound for that lead. If any one wants a pic on how it looks let me know

are the airbags gone off in your car.

if so you need to change the positive lead on battery which is in the boot. its a red lead.

if you go to the dealer they will show you the lead. they sell the lead for 110 pound i think.

after you change the lead the car will start
