E63 AMG, still waiting......

Hey guys, me again, still waiting for my new E63 AMG...

I was after your esteemed opinions

Found a chap on the MB forum who has got one the same spec / colour / tints / wheels and leather as mine.

He posted up a few (not so great) pics

What do you think? A very stealthy 557bhp dog wagon?

PS - DMS have just released a stage 1 remap for this car - 670bhp and 1000nm of torque!!!

Could be fun

LOL, yes pretty pointless, but fun.

It is quite a long / big car, how else can you get 2,000 litres of boot space? (700 litres with seats up)

5 series tourer only has 1670 or 560 litres of boot by comparison.

Yes. This boot space malarky was the reason I was seriously considering an E-Class when I went hunting...

I couldn't afford rear TVs for it, and our 5year old daughter won't care about 5 litre V8's.

Spec is standard car plus a few bit's and bobs, I know the US models come with loads more standard options though.

To buy it would be 78,000, but I'm leasing it for 560/month for 24 months with a 4k deposit.

THAT IS FOOKIN BEAUTIFUL MATE!!! FOOKIN BEAUTIFUL!

SOOOO JEALOUS! I WOULD DRIVE A WAGON IF IT LOOKED AND HAD POWER LIKE THAT!!!!

Sorry for the caps!

That pricing seems fairly cheap!
So what happens are 2 years? What are your options? Do you swap to another car with a 4k deposit... and pay that same sort of monthly monies?

I am an ignorant twat when it comes to leasing. I have always bought cars, but it is so much more sensible to lease and save on depreciation

After 2 years, the car goes back, and you start again with something else.....simple as that!

Oh yes, hence the increased popularity. It just needs people to get over the idea of not "owning" the vehicle. Plus, you do need to be happy and able to commit to the term.

We're looking forward to seeing when chariot when it arrives. The colour combination looks phenomenal and I don't think I'd have it any other way.

Do Mercedes AMG still offer an option for upgrading to rear locking differential ? Just be careful with protecting your driving licence when your E63 arrives :-)

I had an E63 as a loan car when my C63 was being repaired - fantastic car, you'll love it.

The face lift on the E has, in my opinion, transformed an 'ok' looking car into a great one - the headlights and front bumper are a huge improvement.

I find it very funny to read the differences of opinions on ownership, leasing etc across different car forums. If you mention the word lease or PCP on some forums it gets a reaction similar to posting pictures of you being cruel to puppies

The other funny thing about mentions of leasing are those who think they avoid depreciation by leasing ......... they don't !!

I tried a PCP quote and the the 2 year value (GMFV) was given as 45K, that's losing 33k in two years from list price.

Even if you negotiated say 15% dealer discount, that would stil be a loss of over 20 grand in 2 years, dependant on used values, we all know big engined uber-barges have horrendously low used prices.

The total lease cost is 18K over 2 years (750/month) inc the deposit and VAT and both years road tax. (10k miles p/a, 9p/mile excess)

That is overall 130/month LESS than I paid for my 335i on a 3yr PCP starting in 2009.

It's still lot of money, but it's a guaranteed and fixed figure, fits my budget and gets me one hell of a new car, hassle free.

I'm putting aside 200 a month already in a "car" account so I've got 4800 deposit ready for the next car in late 2015, so the 560 rental for the next 2 years is actually 760 if I include the deposit for the next car....

No I wouldn't want to buy it! E63 AMG out of warranty? No thanks!

I'll probably do 15K in 2 years, so that will be just one oil service and maybe some rear tyres That's enough for me.

Remember 78,000 cars are built of expensive parts...

Thanks fly, yes the Merc LSD is 2,500!! and adds zero to the residual. I've already priced up a quaife LSD from Birds (they are UK Merc quaife fitter too).

The quaife is only 900 and no pesky crown gear welding like with a 335i, so I can take it off and sell it for about 500 before the car goes back, so it will only cost 400 plus fitting and removal as opposed to 2.5grand from merc.

Agree, I couldn't have lived with the previous E63, just to much "elder statesman" about that front end.

The facelift is aimed at attracting 'younger' buyers (i.e. 30-40) who perhaps only wear suits at weddings and might want to throw a bike on the roof (or two in the boot ). It works for me

I have no quarms about it. Unless you pay 100% cash for your car you never own it anyway, the credit firms do.

The V5 still has your name on it.

PCP is still just modified HP where the risk of residual value is all on the buyer still. (the GMFV figures are always in favour of the lender)

Excellent responses as usual.

Who in their right mind would want to buy a car of this stature unless you had excess cash available to buy it?

Even on HP/PCP what is the first thing most people do when they have legal title for the car(paid last payment/settled balloon), they sell it!!!!

Leasing all the way on these types of car and generally on most cars, it is the right way to go. Let someone else take the exposure on the residual.

So you like it then?

In effect it's just a 2 year rental (the other name for lease is contract hire)

They just come and pick it up after exactly 2 years.

So about 4 months before that you make plans for another car, either order another new one from somewhere for delivery on the date when the first one gets collected or sort your own used car or whatever you want.

As I said, I'm already putting aside 200/month so in 2 years i'll have 4800 ready for a contribution to anything, leased, PCP, private buy whatever.

I've got no idea what I'll do in 2 years, I'll just see whats on offer at that time.

I won't pay for anything that's not on a special offer.

and you can do it on literally anything as well Josh1, doesn't have to be the expensive stuff. We have a Qashqai on lease. 1200 down and 200 a month for 2 years.

Would rather have an AMG Merc though!
