I just picked up a 535xi and paid $1,545. I have RFTs and 19'' rims. Do you guys think that's okay or should I cancel it? I plan to get aftermarket rims and nonRFT.

I would cancel. Put the money towards a 2nd set of rims for winter use or add it to your BMW Extended Warranty budget. My work takes me to DC all the time and driving around in RFTs is a joy. Only because the road conditions are good. Obviously DC driving in winter weather is another story. I've got that covered with a brand new set of OEM rims with winter RFTs. Good luck.

BTW, I have 19" rims for summer use. For winter, I went with 18" rims. Pretty happy with RFTs so i'm going to stick by them.

Sounds like a great idea. I will use it towards my new set of rims and tires. Thank you!

How in the world have you used it 5x in a year living in OC? For the most part, those roads are immaculate.

Still seems high to me. I live in downtown LA where the roads are awful, and I have only had one flat (nail) in the 18 months I have lived here...just bad luck on your part I guess.

Does this cover curbing? And I mean the kind of curbing that takes small chunks off the entire wheel (wheel at one time got a full 360 hardcore curbing session).

SAFEGUARD SUCKS-

So, I bought a used 2103 135i with the Tire and Wheel warranty. the owner told me it transferred with the vehicle and BMWNA said the same thing as I asked several times. I took my car in the other day with nail in the tire. I was told warranty was still in previous owners name. So called Safeguard (the company that pays the claims and insures the tires and wheels.) they said that if they are not notified within 30 days of owner transfer then I am out of luck. Previous owner called to cancel and tried to get them to transfer the warranty to me and again was told to eff off basically. So it seems they got their money to insure the tires/wheels and now through a bogus loophole they are free of any liability. Wow, what a shady way to run a business. Anyway, there is a disclaimer on the back the mentions this policy but when you are in finance guys office signing 50 pages of stuff, who reads this? BMW was no help either. this is the first time that I have bought a used BMW and I will probably buy new next time as I have 5 times before. After my experience with these A-Holes, I will never give SAFEGUARD a dime of my money again. As long as they get their money and if they can get out of paying, they will. Shady business with awful customer service. I will also tell everyone that I know to use a different company if possible for tire and wheel warranty. OH BTW, they won't cover curb damage or replacement if your tires are worn to a certain level. And if you sell your car, they will do all they can to not honor the policy that was paid for in full as a transfer to a new owner even if you give them notice. A manager told me that they usually won't transfer the policies.

You should really read contracts before you sign them...kind of defeats the purpose to do it after the fact. Cancel it if you can as it's mostly 'fluff' for the F&I guys to make some extra coin.

I paid $8-$900 for a 5-year plan back in 2009 and it only covered the tires. The extended maintenance was an extra $1800, which I originally bought, then returned it a couple of days later. I somehow only managed to use the tire warranty once even though I live in Boston.

If the roads are nice you might not have to worry about it. I have RFT's (both my summer and my winter set) with Wheel/Tire protection on them. They've replaced two tires (about $250-$300 each) so far and I only purchased my car in November. Just my .02

The wheel and tire protection from the dealer is way over priced. Most of the money goes straight into the salesperson's pocket. I bought Conti DWS from a local automotive chain and bought the road hazard warranty from them - free lifetime rotation, balancing, pro-rated road hazard warranty, etc. Fairly inexpensive ($10 or $15 per tire). You do pay something (difference between new and pro-rated wear) if you have to get a new tire but you only pay if you need to use it and still cheaper than a new tire.
