335i - What oil are you using at the track/daily

As the title says, just seeing if there is any kind of general consensus as to what the 335i owners are using for oil in their track driven cars. I have been using M1 0w-40 for some time now, but have been thinking of switching and can't quite pin down what I want to go with. Any thoughts or insight is appreciated.

Fresh oil... It might be a good idea to go somewhat heavier than stock to deal with the inevitable high oil temperatures:

All-around and track
Any good 0W-40 or 5W-40 synthetic that meets minimum requirements (API SM)
Castrol 5W-50
Mobil 1 15W-50

Specifically for track use:
Castrol TWS 10W-60
Liqui-Moly 10W-60
Motul 10W-60

I for one would not track on the 5W-30 OE oil. It may be OK on the street but at 300 F oil temps I'd feel a lot better with a more viscous oil.

You don't need to use an oil that meets BMW LL-01 unless you want to run extended drain intervals (more than 7.5k mi).

I use the Mobil 1 0w-40. We don't see temps high enough to even faze this oil. I've seen a max of 275F on track. Change it after 2-3 track events.

As far as i know, changing to denser oil will "open up" your engine a bit.. meaning you are speeding up its ageing proccess... denser oils should start to be used when your engine has started to consume oil, due to it being a bit "looser" because of its to age and miles run... i personally prefer to make oil changes more frequently and stay with 5-30w than going denser prematurely...

As for oils, here in europe the only one truly 100% sintetic are motul oils.

Sorry for the lack of "technical" words... my english is not that good!

Hope it helps.

There was a spec sheet on the M1 0w40 on the m3 forum, it has one of the highest temp ratings out there. I stick with that on my 330i, but needless to say the oil doesn't see the temps of a turbo car.

I switched to Total 10W-50 on track. Never had a problem with the OEM 5W-30, but I figured a little more high-temp friendly oil wouldn't hurt.

Total 5W-40 in the winter/off season.
