To me, xenon headlights are a significant safety feature, and I think getting them is a very smart move.

For the last time. The dealer said it couldn't be done. It's not like I decided to do this without checking it out. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=559956

Work with me here, I found a reason to trade my ho-hum white / beige 4-door, for a gray / black coupe, and my wife is buying it so I'm running with it.

I've been reading this thread wondering why no one suggested this.

Anything "can be done". Just because the dealer is too lazy to take on the task. I can't imagine trading the car would be a better choice for just lights (I could be wrong though).

Hey man, that thread you posted listed options on how to do HIDs on the sedan.

You can either pay some cash and get HIDs, your dealer is full of sh!t, or trade the car in (probably lose more money on trading in and paying taxes and so on) and get a coupe.

If you want a coupe get a coupe, don't try to flimflam us with a vague thread, we don't need convincing like your wife .

OK, I'll let it go and fade away.

I just asked the mechanical end of it. I appreciate that folks are concerned that I'd lose money or it's not practical but don't you think I know that?

I don't keep my cars long enough to spend big $$ on mods or retrofitting, I trade all the time for all kinds of reasons, motorcycles too (the list of motorcycles I've been through is embarrassing). They don't eat much once their paid for and trading similar value vehicles doesn't cost much. I get to drive/ride a lot of different stuff, it's fun. Sales tax isn't an issue, if I trade a $25K car for a $25K car the tax is $0.

Not related, but since we're all BMW owners you might appreciate this. My bike is the first production year of the all new water cooled BMW R1200 GSW. At 3500 miles the water pump blew chunks. It took 7 weeks for the dealer to get the part from the fatherland. I ordered my plate the same day the bike broke and plate got here first. For all the headaches BMW has giving me over the years I still keep buying them.

I said I'd go away, sorry. I went and drove the coupe and loved it. It drives pretty much the same but I like the looks a whole lot better. My only issue is head room and it could be the deal killer.

Overall the '09 is in better shape cosmetically and has fewer miles, it doesn't feel like a step backwards.

mechanically, I don't believe there are any differences between '09 328i and '11 328i. You are getting a pre-LCI e92, so you lose out on the LED taillights, but '09s have the upgraded CIC idrive. If it drives well and is in good shape cosmetically, I don't see any issues.

if life is short, why not just get a '11 LCI coupe. I love those LED eyes, people to put in LED bulbs on pre-LCI cannot compare. It doesnt sound like you are hurting for money (since life is short) so just go all out.

I thought about this too, problem being once I sell my car I'd need to buy something asap and 328 coupes with xDrive are scarce.
The fact you believe the dealer when they told you no retrofitting can be done is downright laughable...... RETROFITTING can be done.

Why did you get the '11 328 anyways?

Mechanically the '09 and '11 are pretty much samey-same right?

My car is a sedan and the '09 is a coupe with the sports package. Mileage is about the same but I would be giving up 1 year of warranty.

Thanks
I believe you are trading INTO trouble. Didnt BMW make major engine changes in 11? 09 was not good.....injectors twice, hpfp, steering rack, pump&hoses x2, etc etc.

He has a 328.. BMW changed the 335 from a N54 to an N55. The 328 is still using the N52, unless it is the new 328.

YOLO. Go for it! BMWs don't look right without xenons. But, if you are "getting old" having a sport package coupe with 18" wheels might be trading better night vision for a messed up spine.

You're going to sell a beautiful LCI sedan for a Pre- LCI Coupe because of the headlights? Why not just buy aftermarket xenons?

newer or older, who cares, i would be more concerned about the warranty...

e92 is more expensive, e92 looks better, and in his case it has more options. but it wasnt wise to buy 2011 one in the first place.

if I were you, I would look for e92 335 CPO
