Interesting Feature

I was playing around in the interior and wondered what would happen if I locked someone in. Well, it would suck to be them because they couldn't get out. When the doors are locked with the remote the locks 'deadlock' themselves, meaning they can't be opened from the inside (either with the handles or the button). But that's not really the interesting part. Many cars have that.

The interesting part is when I bring the remote close to the slot in the dash (note, I haven't even inserted it yet; the remote is still about 2-3cm away), these deadlocks disengage. Even without comfort access (although I think with CA you can't lock yourself in the car).

Just another of these little features to add to the list.

Thats neat. The key FOB is probably RFID with a localized receiver/transmitter inside the dash slot. I am betting that CA system is a modified version with extended range and a few more receivers (one per lockable door). This is why we cannot addon CA.

Another good reason to get the alarm, if a thief cant easily get in, he might climb in and the motion sensor will activate the alarm, if he has any brains he'll get the hell out.

It's not about actually stealing the car, its been said by everyone here its very hard to do that, its not having anything stolen inside the car such as your radar detector or iPod. I'm sure i'm not the only one with stuff in their glove box (small as it may be).

Unlock

Prior to the 330i I had an e39 528i. If you were locked in the car you could unlock the interior drivers door by pushing the lock button on the console and pulling on the drivers door handle. Not sure if this unlock feature carried over into the e90. My 3 has yet to arrive so I can't test.

Do you mean at the same time? I'll have to give that a try.

Yes. Same time. Hold the button for the locks and pull the drivers door handle. As mentioned this worked on the 5er not sure what will happen on the e90... LMK

Ha ha. That may have been an easier way to test the alarm. I just sat in the car and started jumping around until it went off.

Glad to hear...

Glad to hear it worked! I have two pre-teen sons and have shown them how to get out of my (previous) 5 and 7 using this trick. At some point they are bound to lock themselves into my car and they need to know how to get out!

BTW... I forgot to mention that minor detail about the alarm going off! LOL

Tried this yesterday. I locked myself in the car with the remote, waited about a minute, just to let everything "set"...and I was able to open the driver door with my hand, and the alarm did not go off. Odd!

I just gave it a go now. Locked myself in, tried what Moondog suggested, but it didn't work. People better not do anything wrong in my car or I'll just lock them in. There will be no escape. Mwahaha.

Now I understand why the manual says not to lock people in the car. Because they can't get out.

Oops

Sorry to hear you locked yourself in! Hay, there are worse places to be locked up in (not that I speak from experience :- )

My 3 has yet to arrive so my recommendation was based off how the system worked in my old 5er. A big thanks for doing the ugly leg work so I don't have to risk locking myself in my new car. LOL.

If you lock the car with the remote, you can still unlock the doors from the inside. Push the lock/unlock button and than pull on the handle the 1st time to unlock the door and a 2nd time to open the door.
Is this normal?

Ry.... I haven't tried this unlock proceedure since I took delivery of my 3. My old 5 and 7 series were set up that way to allow you to escape the vehicle if you got locked in so it is normal. I taught both my sons the proceedure just-in-case... I'll check tonight.
