Mpg drop after muffler delete - 325i

Anyone find an mpg drop after muffler delete ? Don't know if its just sociological or because I now have a heavier foot !

I found the exact opposite when I did mine... mine went up as soon as I started to drive normal again not just with a heavier foot to listen to the oh so sweet sound of our engine. I went from about 17 driving in the city to about 18.5 avg and overall avg went up to about 22.3 from 19.7( I do a fair amount of city driving)

How long has it been? Did you have your DME adaptations reset and maybe an ECU reset? Might just need to relearn some of that stuff.

In *theory* even if you dont clear the adapts it shoudl relearn them eventually, clearing them supposedly just speeds up the process AFAIK.

Unless you have the correct cables and software (INPA - believe this is BMW's propietary software or there's bmwLogger (3rd party)) and DIY knowledge you have to take it to either a) dealer or b) an indy shop.

Google bmwLogger2, there is some stuff the free version can do but idk if the adaptations reset is one of them. (Works on xp and up) - you still need the right cable.

If you want to go with INPA, I ordered mine on a CD/DVD off of ebay and it comes with the cable. Only works on Xp or Win 7. At the same time i ordered myself a little dedicated xp laptop just to have on hand for diagnostics. A nice old dell start at around $125 on ebay.

I plan on doing most of my own maintenance/troubleshooting and I felt this would be a worthwhile investment to stay on top of issues or to be able to recode things if needed. When i get the laptop im pretty sure ill end up using both pieces of software. BmwLogger2 is def more user friendly and the INPA one well is super customizeable (it will let you code/uncode special features on your car and do everything bmwLogger can do too just not user friendly plus i think it's all in German).

50 miles isn't really far enough to calculate your mpg accurately. See what it is after a full tank. Also, calculate it manually rather than relying on the trip computer.

Good luck!

Oh this too, i thought you were using a different MPG calculation method. Yeah for the gauge one im sure you just need more miles. Give it a bit and maybe dont worry too much. Thx, Norm.

Think I could just be paranoid. Need to try it on a decent stretch of road. Only tried it on a short stretch at 70mph, so I guess it could be that this particular part of road is on a gradient.
When I picked up the car I drove it home (200 mile trip 70mph) it returned 39mpg.
Now I'm getting 32-34mpg but as I say it's only on a short stretch.

When I'm not paying attention on trying to get good mpg it still returns the same 24-27mpg so that's not changed atoll.

I replaced my resonator with a Y pipe and had tips welded on. Its not very loud but it did make it sound meaner on start up and revs. When i first got it the sound wasnt too great, but after like 2 gas tanks it sounded much better. The computer probably got used to it
