OEM Shadowline Door Trims Oxidizing

Hey all,

I have been noticing that the trims on the doors of my 2011 e92 are starting to look rather bad. They look to be oxidizing quite badly (see below). I went on to realoem.com and got the P/N's as 51338036657 and 51338036658. What is interesting is when I go to Tischer (getbmwparts.com) I find out that those P/N's have been superceeded to (51337208607 and 51337208608). I wonder if there was a defect from the factory that they have since corrected.

Do you guys think the dealer will be willing to change these out under warranty. I mean, I understand that they are exterior trim and are expected to get some wear but after 3 years to look this bad?!?!

Have you tried fixing them?

Clearkote Vanilla Moose or Werkstat Prime Strong work a treat ...

Mine used to look like total hell, way worse than yours. Oxidized, hazed, with what looked like oil-related rainbow light markings, just terrible. But somewhere, I don't remember where, someone suggested just using Klasse AIO on it, and since I was already going to be doing the car in AIO I ran the buffer over them too. Like night and day, worked so much better than I imagined it would.

My initial thought was they look like hell so nothing I do will be much worse, but second try worked (I think I tried using Dawn first).

Interesting. I had the "oil slick" look at first but it has progressed to this. I am reluctant to do any fixing just yet since I am still under warranty and I may be able to just get new parts. The rest of the trim is in great shape, it's just the ones on the doors. I guess if I can't get the dealer to replace them I may have to try your methods as well.

I'd be surprised if the dealer accepted replacing them after 3 years but it's worth trying.

They get damaged over the years from harsh chemicals in TFRs etc. so they'll probably put it down to how you clean the car.
