Good point. I hadn't thought about that. I assumed that if there was a boost leak somewhere like the CP area, the car simply wouldn't boost to the target psi. Plus, I've been noticing that my oil temps stay significantly lower while driving. Could that be from the engine heating up quickly and activating the oil cooler? Without the jb4 installed, my oil temps have stayed around 240. After the jb4 install, my oil temps stay around 200-210.

Yes.

Sounds like a bad idea man lol. Running 91 octane on map 2.

Go check the stock CP you took off and see if the o-ring is still in there.

Just a quick update. Had a quick opportunity to race another n54 335xi. E90 that was stock. Both of us had passengers. I raced on map 1....same result. He beat me. The catch is that I went ahead and switched to map 0. The result was exactly the same. Actually, I would say he pulled less on me on map 0. Lol

Did you ever check your CP to see if the o-ring is still in there?

Yep, it's still there. Maybe there's a leak somewhere else? Is it normal for the boost to spike up and build up in increments?

No, that would indicate a leak

The o-ring is still on your old charge pipe? If it is, then you didn't take it off and put it on the new one and you have a moderate boost leak.

I have an n55 currents mods are: 7" fmic, er cp, bmw full pe, bms intake, 93oct... I was running map 1 for a while before I got my cp than went to map 5 than got curious one day and tried map 2 it was a really strong pull im an xdrive and traction control went crazy and basically stopped my car haha but at any rate i have stock dps and map 2 feels good once and a while sometimes it doesnt feel as fast.. i say log your car with a few different maps and see what looks and feels good. map 5 when it tunes nicely with your car feels great!!

note: I noticed that on n54tech they updated the map guide for the n55 stg 2 and it no longer mentions needing a dp for map 2.. weird.. i could be wrong but check out map guide on the official jb4 n55 thread on n54tech

Yes, it makes a big difference! You have air blowing out of the CP that is supposed to be going in the engine. Depending on the MAF location it could be throwing off the tune. You are probably down a good 30whp.

Ok, well the CP is secure on the engine for sure. The o-ring is in good shape and all the clamps are pretty tight as well as the tmap sensor. Car seems to hold boost better, and it doesn't fluctuate that much, but the car doesn't feel THAT much quicker if you know what I mean. Is the boost supposed to taper down to just above 10psi as the rpms go up? Is there a possibly there's a boost leak somewhere else?

Would the BMW PE qualify as high-flow since it's just muffler upgrade? I'm guessing not although it helps 'engine by-products exit more efficiently' according to BMW. I run 93 all the time and have no other engine modifications (other than PPK) and wondering if I could run map 2 if I got JB4? Or maybe running map1 mostly and map2 on special occasions.

I also have the ppk and bmw pe, I am also wondering if the pe is considered a high flow exhaust.. Map 2 feels great for me sometimes.

Being just muffler upgrade maybe helps only a little.

By the way, I also hear that down pipes don't help as much with n55 as with n54 but these are questions maybe good for terry or someone with expertise.

My understanding was that jb4 map 1 is similar to cobb stage 1 aggressive, not stage 1 sport. I thought stage 1 sport was more akin to BMW PPK.

So like this:
BMW PPK ~ COBB stage 1 sport
JB4 map1 ~ COBB stage 1 aggressive

Am I wrong about that?

Yes, boost tapers bad with this tiny turbo. You want to shift just over 5k.

I know. It's horrible. Especially coming from a car that would build power all the way to 8700rpms lol

I'm trying to log on jb4, but I can't find the software I need to download to do logs. I put some e85 in the car and it's running a bit stronger, but I'd like to see numbers.

I tried map 5 for auto tune, but the pull in Map 5 is not as good like it in Map 2 . I have Dp, Cp, Fmic, and run 93 oct. Is it safe to use Map 2 all the time ?
