My car is hooked up to the reprogramming machine hope its not lonely

Booked in to have the original iPod interface fitted but obviously the dealer didn't start work on it early enough as its been left overnight being reprogrammed with the latest software (I work in the software industry no way does a reprogram take all day, lazy buggers).

I miss it already. On the plus side maybe the new software will fix the problems I've been having with the radio display not dimming properly when the lights are switched on but since my E46 also had that problem I'm not holding my breath.

Oh well, got to take home a 2007 X3 for the night, all I need is a muddy field now.

I think with the older bus speed it does take time. Bit like running windows update after a fresh install with a dial-up modem ...

And overnight costs them nothing in labour

From what I have been told by the dealer they hate re-programming as they cannot do an individual module, they have to do the whole car.

In the simplest case this means that a simple radio change can take all day, but when things go wrong it's then a major headache. If the programming crashes then it can take out the module that it was programming and they have to start afresh having replaced that module.

As a rule they also said that they would never leave the car programming overnight, but would pause the process between modules so that if the power went off they wouldn't have a fried module to replace in the morning.

My E60 was re-programmed a couple of time and in both cases it took an overnight session!

To be honest the dealer seemed petrified of having to reprogram the car, now I am petrified about what I will get back...
