Yup, you change to a whiter, bluer color, you loose light output. You just look cooler.

it doesnt look cooler, it looks ricey.

8000k would only give twice the lumens of halogen were as 4100k-5000k gives off 3 times the lumens of halogen

this is somethign i ehard, and really does fit the discription

"high kelvin rated hid bulbs are like driving in the middle of the day sun with sun glasses on, where as 4100k light is that w/out the sunglasses".

all in all its your decision,a nd its against the law to produce a blue output of light anyway.

assuming u alreasy have hid option on your bimmer, its only a matter of switching the bulbs, since the car already has everything wired to fit hid's.

if u want a really nice color but want the same performance as 4100k, i would look into changing the projectors on the e90 to those of the s2000 or acura TL. the projectors on those two give off tons of color at the cutoff and look really purple blue form far, where as the e90's projector has only 23% color and only gives a light blue color at the cutoff.

no it's more than only changing the bulbs, they don't make 8000k bulbs for the d1S system..

i think it would look very nice

check out hidplanet.com and ask around or do a search. i think all you would have to do is switch a few dollars worth of things around.

i may be wrong but i believe that doing what you are asking is a high risk operation that may (not will) cause a ripple effect in the cars electrical system. it may upset a processor or 2.

you may even encounter an alignment error.

i would leave it alone because bmw engineers have created the car as a package of purpose selected and tested components.

bmw can always turn around and refuse to assist in possible warranty issues that may arise once you have modified the vehicle.

the final decision is yours of course.

all the best and i hope you get what you want and it does work trouble free.

What are you talking about? Bulbs are user changable items (yes, even xenons). How can changing the bulbs "upset a processor or 2"? What are you basing that statement on? I've changed the Xenon bulbs in my 2001 330i several times. Its just a bulb dude. Nothing complicated.

As for the 8000k xenons? They look good but they have a crappy light output. Too blue. I ended up switching back to the factory xenons which provide much more light output.

so you can just replace the lights in the e90 with D1S bulbs? I thought it was more complicated than that.

I know Brex will soon release 8000k and 10000k for the e90, but I thought it was the full housing.

If it's really just about taking out the light, replacing the bulb, and putting it back in to get a pure white/blue light output, i'd do it

8k will look cool. I tried 10k before.
it looked so friggin' awesome from outside.
I couldn't see sh1t at night. dohhhhhhhhh.

Keep it factory or 5~6k rody. You won't regret it.
I had 5300k once, and I think it was perfect blend between output and color.

his question has no been answered yet though.
"does somebody know what i need to upgrade my standart xenon D1S to a 8000k xenon kit.."

can he just replace the D1S bulb and it would work? or does he need some serious modifications.

the DS1 has the bulb and ballast built into it. There are a few companies that were at CES that are developing aftermarket options.

I would go for 6500k which gives off a little blue hue. Not as significant as the 8000k though.
