Exclamation Problem: Changed the brakes, now experiencing vibrations in braking.

At 70k miles. Changed rear brake pads (Hawk HPS) and rotors (Zimmerman) at 63k, was not experiencing any problems. Front pad sensor was tripped 200 miles ago. So yesterday, I changed the front pads (Hawk HPS 5.0) and rotors (Zimmerman), along with a new sensor.

Right after I finished changing the front brakes, I went for a little test drive and felt a light vibration in the brake pedal and only when the brake pedal is pressed; when I let off the brakes the vibration goes away.

I've searched the forums and it seems everyone correlates this problem to a warped rotor but like I mentioned, the problem initiated right away without any real use.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

PS- I have not bled the brakes and I am overdue for a brake fluid change (I was waiting to get the front brakes done).

Did you clean the hub and back of the rotor before replacing it? Any rust and/or dirt will put the rotor off true and you'll get vibration during braking. Just a thought.

Make sure to clean the mating surface between the hub and the rotor.

But it is possible for a brand new rotor to be out of true, especially considering you have no vibration previously. The new Meyle ones I got were out of round, straight out of the box.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I had cleaned the surface... Is there any chance that this might be geared towards bad brake fluid or needing to bled the brakes?

Pretty unlikely I think.

* You say you have cleaned the hub and mating surfaces. Good. If you can't get it to work, redo it.
* Are your wheels tightened with the proper torque and procedure? (star pattern, etc).
* Did you clean the guide pins, and re-greased them with brake grease ?

Could be a defective rotor or brakes improperly bedded in and now the rotors have uneven pad deposit. If the vibrations increase when the rotor gets hot then they are warped. To test get to hwy speeds and apply the brakes gently while still on the gas pedal and drive like that for 5 to 10 sec. If vibration increases you most definitely need new rotors.

It's the rotors. I have had to cut so many rotors that were new out of the box that it's not funny. That's when I got an on car brake lathe.
