Does comfort access lock itself?

and for that matter. does non-comfort access lock its self. the MAIN reason i wish they had comfort access when i ordered, is all the itmes my hands are totally full on the way TO the car. but last night i had all this stuff in my car when i got home, and it was such a hassle to grab all the stuff, then shut the door, THEN lock it. if i couild have just shut the door and after a minute or two, all the doors would have locked by themselves, it would have been great.

I'll have to check, but that might be a function you can program with iDrive. I believe I saw it as one of the options on my Navi screen.

No, it doesn't. You have to touch the ridges briefly.

huh. sooo, can you just like rub up on it. haha. or does it somehow need to be like a whole open hand, or whole set of open finger tips.
and i wanna just reitterate my question one last time to clearify. on my noncomfort access car. if i drive somewhere, get out of the car, shut allll the doors, and then just walk away from the car, the doors will remain unlocked foreveeeeeerrrrrr? cause that kinda sucks. i believe my acura locked all the doors after 2 minutes, and it was a sweet feature.

It's not, but if it were, it would be in the Personal Profiles screens (where you set the driveaway locking, and lock confirmation flashing, not in the Nav screen).

You might be thinking of the "relock door if not opened" option. This is where the central locking system will relock an unlocked car if no door is opened.

Yes - forever! And if it did lock this way, it could conceivably lock your key in the car (for non CA cars).

So then you put your keys down one day, get our walk away for a little bit, come back and you are locked out

I hate cars that lock themselves
If I want it open, it should say open
If I want it locked, ill lock it

If your hands are completely full...you could use your arm to touch the ridges. Once I was carrying so much, I put my ass against the handle...and the doors locked :-)

Ksfrogman is correct. In the program stalk you can set your car to automatically lock after 40 second.

No, he's not and he wasn't sure either.

Did you see JSpira's response on this which explained it?

That option is only valid when you have not opened any doors..
i.e. When you unlock doors & donot open them (do not enter car), then it locks itself in 'x' secs - you set in that option.

As said before, E90 will not autolock itself & has no such option.

I was talking to my friend with A4, who has an autolock option. He was complaining that autolock feature is bad, since it may so happen that you have your car keys in & you stepped out of car & it will autolock !!! (of course they dont have comfort access).
But that kind of makes sense to me.

At least we should remember one thing everyday after leaving our cars...

Hmmm. Not sure what this "after 40 seconds" thing is about. I know that I programmed the car to automatically lock the doors after it hits 5 mph, but this is an entirely different circumstance.

JSpira was right about what I was thinking about--the "relock door if not opened" option.

What E90Fleet said also made a lot of sense. I wouldn't be happy if after leaving my keys in my car, I walked away, then came back to realize my car locked me out (non-CA car). I can imagine of a lot of routine situations (e.g., dropping of mail in a mailbox, washing the car at a car wash, etc.) where this could occur.

My brother's 2005 Corvette has "comfort access" and it will lock the doors as soon as you are more than 30 feet away automatically. I like it.

cdheaven has a very valid point. BMW has a flawed concept of not instilling the ability for the car to automatically lock itself after a set time once all the doors have been shut - ESPECIALLY with the option of comfort access installed.

You may complain "oh, I want it unlocked when it's unlocked" but hey, if you have comfort access, the door will automatically unlock once you tug the door handle! In summary: there is *absolutely* no reason why the doors should not automatically lock by itself after an adjustable amount of time when the driver has the comfort access option.

So another point against BMW for not thinking correctly and another point for Chevrolet for thinking properly.

I agree, it would be nice if the doors locked it self after a preset time. I hate having to go back outside just to see if I had locked the doors. Maybe thing will come out in future up dates to the cars computer.
