2. Hook up the ground connection. I used the hex on the driver's side.

3. Remove some of the tape around the wires to free up the appropriate wires. (Green with white stripe.) Splice the correct wire with the materials included in the V1 hardwire kit.

I actually like its edgy-er, more industrial look and finish a lot more than all the other cheap, rounded off, grey plastic enclosures. Mine is also on the passenger side, so its not in my face as much.

Did you see the article a while back on here about the recent trends of what wealthy parents give their kids? With my bad memory, it was something like the most bought car for a 16 year old was a BMW 3...its somewhere on here.

I'm not that far from you, I'll be 21 in a bit. Just enjoy the drive, and hopefully whatever stupid things you might want to do, you already did on your prevous car.

ya I dont do too many stupid things, i had a 99 civic 4dr ex for like 6 months before i got my 3 so I got the stupid crap out of the way already.

Nice upgrade to go from Honda to BMW. I went from an Integra to this baby, and mostly no regrets, just miss the boost.

Awesome DIY photos. I was looking for this precise & clear pictures to hardwire my V1. Thanks to sfbmw, I'll be able to do it this weekend with ease..

This is the best thread ever. It took me a lot of cussing and pulling and nearly breaking my damn car to get the console down, but this thread gave me the confidence to keep at it. Now I have a beautifully clean install and a brand new V1!

Great pics and write-up.

I wish there was a way to mount the V1 out of site. I wouldn't tape $400 to the inside top of my windshield. Is there another mounting technique -- say on the visor?

There is a visor clip mount that comes with the V1. You could use that if you wanted. Truthfully, you can barely even see the radar detector from outside the car. You have to either know it is there already or lean over the windshield. It is basically camouflaged by the rearview mirror and the line of tint at the top of the windshield.

I love it! VA doesnt allow radars, but the V1 isnt detectable and this mount wont be giving me any trouble...

I had a local shop hardwire mine for me since I'm electronically challenged. The idiots put it above the dash instead up by the rearview mirror. Now I have to call and have them re-do it. I'm so pissed.:mad:

I have mine as close to the roof as possible right to the left of the little hump. It looks pretty flush up there. When I get out of the car, I put the visor down and you can't even tell its up there. Even if you look inside the car, you can't tell....

Great DIY instructions! I did mine in less than an hour. On my car, however, there was only one green w/ white wire. Fortunately it was the one used for the v1 power. I have a pretty much stock 325 so maybe the other wire is for a gadget I don't have.

great writeup sfbmw!! did mine w/in 1hr. havin' trouble wit sunroof cuttin off the v1. has ne1 try a different power source beside the green white stripe wire???

Anyone noticing their Valentine not picking up certain radar?

My radar is about 4 years old now....so its stone age technology....but while driving by one of those read out your speed signs, my radar was silent the entire time except for one pulse alarm about 400 feet from the unit.
